What do waffles, beef, and beer all have in common? Can’t figure it out? Come on — we bet you can!
Want the answer? Well, ALL of these items are available over at the Belgium booth at EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival! We’ve been making our way around the festival to show you everything available, from ALL of the fun food to the exciting lineup of concerts happening! And now, it’s time for our FULL review of the Belgium booth. Is this booth an absolute winner or something you should skip? Let’s find out together!
Menu
The Belgium booth is located between the France and Morocco pavilions in World Showcase. You’ll find a few different items here, most of which we mentioned already (waffles, beef, and beer — what more could ya need?!).
All of these items are returning from last year. In fact, the menu is the exact same except for the missing Chimay Dorée Gold drink. So without further ado, let’s get in to the food!
Eats
First up, we have the Beer-braised Beef served with smoked gouda mashed potatoes for $5.75. We’ve had this before and found it to be really tasty. In the past, the potatoes have been delicious and the flavors have been strong. But during past visits, we’ve also found this to be very salty and have felt like the meat was overdone.
So what did we think of it this year?
Well, we felt like this was a solid savory dish. It was actually our favorite thing at the booth this year! There was SO much flavor going on with it!
Most importantly, we think that this a dish that delivers on quality no matter how long it sits around. Oftentimes, the dishes at the Food and Wine Festival are made several minutes in advance and are just sitting there, waiting for guests to order them. That can make those dishes taste a little less than ideal. But this is the kind of dish that still tastes good, even if it’s been sitting out for a while!
Next, there is the Belgian Waffle with warm chocolate ganache for $5. Again, this is a returning item and one we’ve had in the past. In previous years, the chocolate ganache has just tasted like regular chocolate syrup to us, and the whipped cream has just been your basic sugary whipped cream.
This year, however, we will say that we were very pleased with the waffles themselves. They were nice and soft, really tender, moist, and not overcooked! The whipped cream and chocolate did melt incredibly fast though, so just keep that in mind.
It’s not necessarily the most unique dessert, but it could be a great choice for picky eaters or little ones. Don’t be surprised if your kiddo ends up begging you to grab one of these!
The last food item is the Belgian Waffle with berry compote and whipped cream for $5. There have been times when we’ve enjoyed this dish in the past, but we have also had it where it has WAY too much jam on it. The berry compote has also just tasted like normal jam to us on some occasions.
This year again we really enjoyed the waffles themselves as they were soft and tender. And overall we thought that this waffle was very good!
Still, between this and the chocolate waffle, we think the chocolate one is more friendly for little ones.
Drinks
Now, time for the drinks! As we said before, all of the drinks are returning from last year. These include the St. Bernardus Witbier, Belgian Abbey Ale, and Delirium Red Fruit Ale, which also come in a beer flight for $10. Individually, they’re $5 for a 6 oz. pour and $9 for a 12 oz pour.
We’ve tried all of these before and found that we like the Delirium Red Fruit Ale the best — it has a really great fruity flavor!
There is also an alcoholic coffee drink over here, the Chilled Coffee featuring Godiva Chocolate Liqueur for $11.
This one has been around for a long time, and we’ve found that it’s a tasty way to get some caffeine!
Overall
We found this booth to be pretty good, though it is not terribly exciting. The waffles were solid this year — really well done and delicious. They’re pretty basic waffle toppings though. That could be great for kids or adults with pickier palettes, but they’re not exactly the most adventurous things you can get at the Festival.
The Beer-Braised Beef was actually our favorite item here this year. It delivered on flavor and quality and is something that we think can hold up despite potentially having to stand out for a bit before being eaten.
Overall, it’s a solid booth that could satisfy the whole family — beer and beef for the adults, chocolate waffles for kids. It’s a solid booth, though not necessarily anything that’ll totally and completely blow you away.
