It’s nearly impossible to visit Disney World without at least walking through a gift shop; and each store is typically filled with lots of different, sometimes new and very popular, items to pick from.
From new Mickey ears to the latest Crocs, there’s a wide variety of souvenirs you could bring home. But, Disney has recently implemented a new merchandise policy that you need to know about before your next visit.
In the past, we’ve seen Disney implement stricter merchandise limits than usual on select items. Back in November of 2020, for example, Disney placed a stricter limit on how many items a guest could buy from select limited edition merchandise releases.
And just recently, we saw that Disney placed a 2-per-item limit on newly released Halloween merchandise.
While we were walking around Magic Kingdom today, however, we noticed that the 2-per-item limit had been extended to other, non-Halloween items. Over at Star Traders in Magic Kingdom, we spotted signs indicating that there was a 2-per-item, per guest limit on purchases for items all throughout the store.
We spoke with a Cast Member there and they told us that the limit is generally applicable throughout the store and is actually being applied to nearly all merchandise throughout Magic Kingdom. When we asked why the limit had been placed, the Cast Member mentioned that it was mostly a supply issue and that they were a bit more limited in terms of their merchandise supply at the moment.
We made our way over to the Emporium and were able to chat with a Cast Member there as well. The Cast Member at the Emporium told us that, as of today, the two per item, per guest rule has been implemented property wide throughout Disney World.
It’s unclear how long this merchandise limit will be in effect, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more updates on that. If you’ll be visiting Disney World soon, just be sure to keep this merchandise limit in mind. Make sure you check whether the limit is still in effect during your trip, and whether it is in effect for the merchandise you’re looking to buy and/or the park/store you’re visiting.

Have you seen signs for this limit on merchandise purchases during your visit to Disney World? Tell us in the comments.
Can you have merch shipped to your home in all WDW retail stores?
Does this mean only 2 items per transaction? Or a limit of 2 per person per day? What would stop you from purchasing 2 items, leaving the shop, coming back and buying 2 more? How are the keeping track of this? Sorry for all the questions but I’m curious and confused.
On one maiden cruise there was a group that was buying up merchandise (limited additions) by the arm full so passengers were not able to get a souvenir of their cruise. Not very Mickey like behavior. When the first Hallmark Enterprise Christmas ornament came out some greedy people brought them up. The next year they were selling them for $300 each at science fiction conventions. ?
Now if only they would do this ONLINE! They have a purchase limit of 10 for 50th anniversary merch. It’s ridiculous. It’s all on eBay for double the price before I can buy one on Shopdisney 🙁
Finally. Do you know how annoying it is, to see people buy 10+ of one item just to see that same item go up on EBay for 3x the price? This won’t solve everything but it’s a start.
Considering also that there are people who seem to specialize in buying bulk amounts and then posting them on eBay at a mark up, I am not surprised.
It’s odd that the post completely ignored the possibility that resale on eBay may have had something to do with this.
I don’t agree with a limit of 2. If I have 4 children and I can only buy 2 I wouldn’t buy any . Disney should be making more. Limits like this make me want to purchase elsewhere. Just my opinion because buying 2 isn’t worth the trouble it would cause to the 2 that didn’t get it.
I’m very happy to see the limit of two per person. In fact, I would love to see it two per family. Although I know that’s unreasonable because it’s impossible to police. it’s extremely frustrating to feel like you have to take a day off from work when new merchandise is coming out in the parks just to get it. If you wait until you get off from work that day it’s always gone and they never seem to bring any of it back. A good example is the 50th anniversary merchandise that came out earlier this month gone in one day still not brought back.
they are killing their revenue with this limit, its only going to hurt them.
We were at the parks from Wednesday until yesterday and there were no limits. Today we went to the Character warehouse and the same limit applied to the whole store! We didn’t take notice in Disney Springs because we were mostly browsing. It came up overnight, literally
I hope the limit stays so the people who come in and just take an entire shelf of something new so they can then go resale it on eBay will slow down. I know it won’t stop because all they have to do is leave the store then come right back and buy 2 more, but at least it makes it a little more difficult for them. I just get so frustrated with people who do that!! Aaarrrgghh!!!
Not even mad about this! ??
Amazing, supply chain backlog.
Just to be clear, does that mean that if I love everything and want to take it home, I can buy one of every single item in the store? I want to make sure I’m understanding this right and that it does NOT mean I can only buy two items total in a particular store.
I’m visiting in a couple of weeks and have been saving up my money because I have some big purchases in mind—especially in Galaxy’s Edge and nuiMo outfits! We are talking personal use here, NOT for resale online. I feel like the eBay folks and personal shoppers are really ruining things for the “normal” folks who just want some souvenirs!
The one thing I wanted to buy on our trip this week was the Mickey soap dispenser. I was told as soon as they got a shipment they were sold out in seconds. So, it does not sound like that was limited to 2 per customer. They are now selling on Ebay for 40 dollars and not available on Shop Disney. Another disappointment in merchandise for us was that for the prize given for the Remy’s hide and squeak there were no options to choose from they just gave you the Figment bowl. That was true at all the locations where you could redeem your prize. People were grumbling about that one, no one wanted Figment. Overall merchandise just didn’t do much for me this trip. I came home with extra money, which I will save for my next trip.
I suspect the limit, which is long overdue IMO, is to try and curtail folks from buying multiple items and using their pass holder discount, and then selling them on the secondary market for outrageous prices. It makes it very difficult for true collectors to add to or finish their collections.
I am so glad they have put a limit on purchases. It may help these “resalers” from grabbing everything in sight and leaving nothing for the genuine visitors. Hope they extend it to the Character Warehouses too.
Yay! There should be a limit. I am a passholder and dvc and it’s super frustrating that items sell out and then you see them on eBay within an hour! Disney could stop this is they wanted to by taking away passes of people who do this! Ans castmembers need to enforce it at the register.
Jen, it means you can’t buy more than two of any particular item. Otherwise, you can buy one or two of everything if you’d like. 🙂
Carol, I think it will be two per transaction. We’ll have to see how this works in reality.
Debbie, I believe most or all stores will ship items for guests.
I wish Disney would put everything they sell in the parks in the Disney store to be bought online. Then everyone would have an equal chance to buy merchandise.
All retailers are having trouble getting items to stock their shelves, particularly those whose goods are primarily imported, which is Disney. There are still containers waiting overseas to be loaded on ships and ships waiting outside U.S. ports to be unloaded. While I applaud having some kind of limits to prevent resellers from scooping up the most desirable items, the current issue seems to come down to lack of goods to sell.
It’s not just guests that are buying up items and reselling them on other media outlets like ebay. CAST MEMBERS are doing this as well. Disney has recently started a policy about Cast Members selling Disney merchendise on ebay…..
The two iitem (same item)per persn limit seems reasonable. For the person above that stated she has 4 kids. I think that if the kids are there it’s not a problem, Each kid is a seperate guest. One person paying, but 4 seperate guests. (assuming they are there) Likewise Grandma and Grandpa togeather could buy 4 of the items (2 purchased by Grandma and 2 by Grandpa)
I do agree that Disney is making thing across the board more and more difficult and this is just a simple straw. Not a straw that will break anything or and back.
I am concerned with more and more must have requirements to have a cell phone in the parks. Your park tickets, your lightning pass, your DVC or Pass holder cards. I dont like cell phones and dont carry one. I am not the nly person in the world that feels this way. THis more to have everything on your phone is wrong and needs to be stopped .
Since many of the items that interest me are in the stores and not
for sale online I can only hope that there will be some items available when I visit in December. Can’ t just hop in the car from Michigan to buy some special items. There really is limited park items to purchase on line. And no matter how much I really want an item I refuse to line the pockets of an E-bay scalper and pay double , triple or more for it. I’m not going to enable that type of greed.
Your a little late on getting this post out. We were there early December and it was posted in just about every gift shop in every park.
Amber, the post was from August, so we have been seeing this for a while now.
