We got a LOT of news this week on what we can expect for the fall in Disney World.
From changes to the mask rules to Disney Genie, it’s been a LOT to follow. One detail you might have missed is that Disney confirmed that the upcoming Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ride in EPCOT WILL use a Virtual Queue when it opens, but how will it work?
Disney told Cast Members a little bit more about how the Virtual Queue process will work for the new ride. We’re familiar with the system as we’ve seen it on Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the process isn’t changing for Remy’s!
Guests with valid park admission and an EPCOT Disney Park Pass will be able to access the Virtual Queue system via the My Disney Experience app beginning at 7AM on the day of their reservation. This can be done from anywhere as long as you have that reservation.
If you are unable to get a Boarding Group at 7AM, you’ll have another chance when the second Boarding Group window opens at 1PM. The 1PM window can only be accessed AFTER you have entered EPCOT for the day.
Remember, guests MUST start their day in EPCOT to access Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure this way. If you have another Disney Park Pass reservation, you will not be able to access the Virtual Queue.
But, Virtual Queue will NOT be the only way to access Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Disney has also confirmed that this attraction will be available as an Individual Attraction Selection for the new Lightning Lane feature (Basically, the new Fastpass line.) that’s debuting with Genie+.
Guests can opt to purchase Lightning Lane access for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (which they do NOT need a Boarding Group to use) for a fee that will vary based on date.

Lightning Lane
As you might know, this process is EXACTLY the same for Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It may be difficult to grab a Boarding Group for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, so stay tuned to DFB for tips and tricks as we get closer to the opening.

Disney!!! You have a system that crashes on the regular when people are getting up in the comfort of their own homes to get fast passes (in the past) or dining reservations. That’s a much smaller group than ALL the people who will be staying at the resorts, those who purchase Genie+ and those trying to get the virtual cue ALL AT 7AM!!! I hope Disney put a TON of money into updating their system to be able to handle the Hunger Games they are creating by having EVERYTHING happen at 7 am!!!
Epcot is bigger than studios. I hope they give guests more than an hour to get to the ride when the get called.
I saw the ride on a you tube channel it looks great .This ride will be very popular with the whole family .
Will you be able to buy a Lightning Lane time for Remy’s later in the day if you hop from another park and don’t have a park reservation for that day?
Really !!!!! Yet another virtual line. Can’t stand this.
Disney is becoming an UNhappy place:
1. Expensive tickets and food.
2. Park reservation system.
3. Paying for parking at a Disney hotel.
4. Virtual lines.
Toooooo much need for technology. Please just make it a fun theme park again.
I hate to say this but all of this Disney Genie and virtual Queues is making it difficult for older visitors who are not as tech savvy.
I plan on park hopping to epcot after Magic and Animal Kingdrom after nap time for our 4 day trip. So i wouldn’t be in epcot until about 5pm every day. So this means I can’t access the virtual queue at 7 NOR can I access the 1pm. So I won’t be able to ride at all???
Ruby, that’s true. If Disney Genie is active by your trip, you could purchase an Individual Attraction Selection, but unfortunately I think that’s going to be your only option. Wish I had a better answer for you.
Evan, my understanding is that you don’t need a Disney Park Pass reservation in order to purchase an Individual Attraction Selection. So you could, if you’re staying onsite, purchase a Remy’s Lightning Lane pass via Individual Attraction Selection starting at 7AM on the day you want to ride it. If you’re staying offsite, you can purchase one at Park opening (even if you’re not at that Park).
So let me get this straight. My very expensive theme park ticket is basically just an admission ticket to people watch, shop and eat at food carts? If I want to ride a normal ride like Haunted Mansion without waiting in a 3 hour standby line, I have to purchase genie +. Going forward, If I want to ride brand new rides I’ll have to play the 7 am or 1 pm virtual queue lottery game or pay an undisclosed amount of money to possibly ride? Seriously? Nope, I’m not doing it Disney. See ya later alligator.
You know I completely agree it was so nice to be able to plan at least three fast passes in advance so that way I could at least set my morning and my lunch time. Rather than catering to the unorganized people or the people that just don’t care to schedule fast passes until the day of that could have just been an option for them to not schedule if they didn’t want to rather they should have kept the pre-planning for all of the people who like pre-planning and just make it an option for those to simply not schedule their fast passes if they simply didn’t want to! Now I honestly don’t know how to play in my day.
Except for the fact that visitors don’t have to stand in line for hours, is there any other advantage of having a virtual queue? It seems that luck plays a large part in getting boarding groups. I think of families who save up for years to go to DW and not may not a chance to go again not being able to get on the ride just because they or their data provider wasn’t “fast enough.” Or do I misunderstand this and if you want to ride it, you will be able to at some point in the day. (I know that rides breakdown and people may miss the chance to ride but that is a different kind of bad luck.) Why not just treat the virtual queue like a fast pass but still offer a standby line?
These mandatory virtual queues for popular rides are wrong on every level. It’s almost “virtually “ impossible to snag a boarding group at either of the two times a day they are offered, and extremely unfair to people without smart phones (yes, SHOCK, not everyone has a smart phone) .
The virtual queues should be optional and there should be a regular, old fashioned wait line offered at all rides for those whose visit is their only chance to ever get to ride and don’t mind waiting to do so.
Rebecca, Boarding Passes and the virtual queues do mean folks miss out on riding applicable attractions. In theory and in practice, if all those with Boarding Passes are able to ride and there’s still time left in the day, attractions using virtual queues can reopen virtual queue access in My Disney Experience and/or open the line for Standby. We actually saw this earlier this month for Rise of the Resistance. Ride breakdowns and delays make this rare — so rare that I believe we’ve only seen it happen once.
I guess you’re out of luck if you have limited days and want to park hop and can’t hop until 2. No chance to get in the virtual line, so no chance to ride the ride…..unless you pay more. Just ridiculous!
Disney, your are trying to create something unique, but having been to Disney several time, and looked forward to coming back again, in 2022, I think I will by-pass your electronic night mare. One thing your people are forgetting is the interaction between humans and not electronic devices. We are all on a slippery slope, with more and more dependence on electronic devices. The old way may have been a little slower, but when you are on vacation, it should now be the old grind you are coming from, but a pace to slow you down and learn to enjoy everything around you, not worry if you phone will go dead in the middle of the day. Please stop and rethink some of these “great electronic devices” and the way you are using them. The older parks were fun! And a lot less expensive!!
So basically if you don’t have a smart phone or other form of technology you won’t be able to ride this or any other ride that has a virtual queue? Trying to save for a trip with all of the new ala carte charges coming down the pike, and fewer perks for passholders, the Park is really getting to be fo the monierd only. IT seems that the new system is a bit regimented and for those who love to overplan every second of their trip. I’ve visited the parks over 100 times over the years and for the last few have witnessed more construction that park but I was really looking forward to what was coming. Now, I’ve been “technologied” and priced right out of visiting. For those of you who can still go….take some time to enjoy the small but spectacular moments of magic to be found unplugged and unrushed. You’ll be amazed at how much more there is than running from ride to ride.
I have a question….do you have to purchase Genie+ in order to pay for the Individual Selection rides? Or can you just choose to pay for this ONE ride to ensure that you get to experience it?
Dorothy, you can pay for the Individual Attraction Selections independent of Genie+. So if you want to buy a Lightning Lane pass for, say, Rise of the Resistance, you could do that and not pay for or use Genie+.
