Over the past several months, many things have changed all throughout Disney World.
Time to Visit Magic Kingdom!
Just in the past few weeks alone, we’ve seen fireworks return to the parks, pre-shows reopen, more hotels and restaurants reopen, and ride queues return to “normal.” So, you might be wondering. What does rope drop look like in the parks right now? Well, we checked out the rope drop situation in Magic Kingdom today and are sharing all the details with you.
For the past few months, guests have been able to enter the parks early and some of the rides and more have been open about 20 to 30 minutes before the park’s posted operating hours. But, today we visited Magic Kingdom and guests were being held at certain entry points around the Castle hub, more similar to how things were handled pre-COVID.
By about 9AM we were standing near Cinderella Castle and getting a feel for the crowds around us. You can see some of them in the video below.

So, we held back for a few seconds to see how things would play out.
A Look at the People Waiting
What we noticed is that Disney held the guests at the Castle entrance area about 5 minutes longer than everyone else.

So, if you’re hoping to enter Fantasyland by walking straight through Cinderella Castle, be aware that you might have to wait a little bit longer than people entering Magic Kingdom’s other areas through the other entrance points.

The crowd that entered the fastest were those going through the Liberty Square entrance. Here’s a peek at those crowds.

Within a few minutes though, the crowd had already dissipated quite a bit.

Again, from what we saw, those waiting right in front of the Castle seemed to enter the slowest.
Next in terms of entering slowly were those that went in by the side of the Castle near Tomorrowland. This is the entrance that takes you past Cheshire Cafe (to the left) and Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe (to the right).
That’s a Pretty Big Crowd
Guests waiting near the main Tomorrowland entrance got in pretty quickly from what we saw — but that’s specifically for the first Tomorrowland entrance (not the one near Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe).
A Look at the Crowds Around Us
The Adventureland entrance area moved fairly quickly as well, but the winner today was the Liberty Square entrance! If you’re planning to visit Magic Kingdom soon, now you’ve got an idea of what rope drop looks like and what areas (at least from what we’ve seen) may move faster than others.

Are they doing any kind of opening ceremony before rope drop? A few years ago Fairy Godmother opened the park and a firework went off as the lands opened. 🙂
I assumed that the rope drop was at the train station tunnel to Main St. I was not aware there were multiple rope drops. Confusing…

Please continue keeping your reporting true, especially when photos are used from previous years, or if they are the latest, up to the minute. It helps give me a glance of what the parks look like, such as crowd levels.

Joe, currently they’re not having a character or pyrotechnics at rope drop, just a voiceover welcoming guests to the Park, instructing guests not to run, and telling everyone to have a magical day.
The rope drop program needs to be banned. It is putting park guest safety at risk and it’s purpose is to encourage park guests to crowd into to parks in mass at park opening. It needs to be stopped.

Rob, one of our reporters tells me that to the right of Cinderella Castle, passing by Cheshire Cafe is likely the best route. Some folks may suggest going through the Castle itself, but that area gets a little more bottlenecked, so our suggestion is that right-side path.
