We have sad news, DFB friends.
The PeopleMover is an iconic Disney World attraction — there’s nothing quite like takin’ in the views above Magic Kingdom! But we’ve been unable to tour Tomorrowland on it for over a year (since March 2020, to be exact). The refurbishment keeps getting extended again…and again…and again. Most recently, the ride was set to reopen on April 4th, but that date has once again changed.
According to Disney World’s refurbishment calendar, the PeopleMover is expected to be closed through April 30th, 2021.
We’re not gonna lie — if you’ve been following the progress on the refurb, this is pretty disappointing. The ride has been tested multiple times (even with people aboard!). Recently, we even saw the ramp up to the loading area running! But it looks like we’ll have to wait until at least May 1st to ride again. That’s when it’s off Disney’s refurbishment calendar once again.
We’ll keep you posted throughout the next month, as the refurbishment continues (and we’ll see if it gets extended again!). Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news.

I’d read somewhere else (yeah, I know…why am I even *trying* to get Disney news anywhere else than DFB! Bad Paul. Bad! Go stay!) that maybe the delay has to do with the Tomorrowland construction around Tron.
Since I haven’t been to WDW since 2017 it’s not clear to me if the Tron construction might require some safety set back and therefore impact PeopleMover? Doesn’t seem likely but would be curious what the DFB team thinks about this?
This make me so sad. How could it have gone from a working ride, to “we can’t get it going again”? This is my favorite ride at MK.
My wife has rides on the PeopleMover with about 6 of our grandkids as they took an afternoon nap. The cast would let them go around and around until 5he kid woke.
Disney may be the happiest place on earth but it hires the slowest construction and engineering teams in the world to complete their refurbishments. Bad Show Disney…
When getting up in years, the People Mover is the most soothing ride in the Kingdom. A place to relax, cool off and watch the hustle and bustle from above the crowd. The train and the People Mover might be the simplest rides, but for us – the most pleasurable. A must on every visit.
Paul, first: how COULD you?! Second, we’re really not sure what’s going on with PeopleMover, but we’re desperate to find out (and to have it running again). We’ll keep checking on it and updating whenever there’s pertinent info.
Love the People Mover. It is so relaxing, the stress of the day leaves you with every minute you spend on this ride. Would hate to see it go,like The Great Movie Ride in Disney Studios.
I agree with Jeannine, my Husband and I loved this ride. He passed away Aug. 15 after 47 years of marriage. We could always rest and cool off. Like Frank said they would let us go around as much as we wanted.
my family loves this also Disney needs to get this up and running again and we also hated when they took out the great movie ride and we also DON’T like what they done to the jungle cruise and also splash mountain making too many changes and the magic kingdom use to have a night parade called Spector magic and for anyone that has seen it knows it was the best parade but Disney removes things and never brings them back and that is a real shame too many changes b 4 long the real magic kingdom will no longer b there and look like universal and we have no interest n going there
Come on , WDW! Millions of people are waiting on the People Mover to re-open. Well, slight hyperbole. But definitely thousands.
