The world is constantly evolving when it comes to handling COVID-19.
And as the rollout of the vaccine continues, more analysis is being done. Disney has set many safety policies and procedures, which are also evolving as the coronavirus situation changes. Soon, there may be a shift in CDC guidelines that could potentially impact Disney’s current distancing requirements.
According to Axios, the CDC is analyzing data that suggests 3 feet is sufficient for social distancing “under certain circumstances.” A study on Massachusetts public schools found “no substantial difference” in COVID-19 cases when comparing a 3-foot social distancing policy with a 6-foot one. The CDC will launch its own study in response to these results.
Dr. Anthony Fauci stated that it “it won’t be very long” before the CDC can adjust official social distancing guidelines — depending on the results of the study.
Changes in these safety guidelines could also affect Disney World’s own social distancing policies, but there has been no indication yet that these will change.
Update: According to CNBC, the CDC has recently revised its guidance for social distancing in schools. Its updated recommendations, which apply to K-12 students, now state that most students can sit 3 feet apart (instead of 6 feet) as long as they are wearing masks.
But, in communities where COVID-19 transmission is high, the CDC recommends that “middle school and high school students remain at least six feet apart if schools aren’t able to keep students and teachers in assigned groups.” For elementary schools, where “younger children have been shown to be at less risk of transmitting the virus than teens,” kids can stay safe as long as they are 3 feet apart with masks, according to the CDC’s updated guidance.
But, the CDC continues to recommend at least 6 feet of distance between adults in schools, and between adults and students. Six feet social distancing is also still recommended in common areas, when eating, when doing indoor activities, and in settings outside of the classroom.
We’ll keep you posted as we receive more updates. As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney news!
The study you are talking about was a SMALL STUDY, DONE BY ONE MEDICAL CENTER, DONE ON MASSACHUSETTS ONLY, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS, WHICH ARE VERY YOUNG CHILDREN ONLY.
PLEASE STOP TWISTING FACTS TO MAKE IT SOUND LIKE DR. FAUCI OR THE CDC IS GOING TO DROP THOSE 6 FOOT SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES TO 3 FEET BECAUSE OF THAT, OR THAT IT WOULD EVEN APPLY TO A CROWDED AMUSEMENT PARK IF THE SCHOOLS DID CHANGE THER POLICY. THE CDC IS ANALYZING DATA.
YOU ARE DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO BECOMING A PROPAGANDA WEBSITE.
I’d prefer 4 feet just for comfort and to not have people right on top of me. I think the 6 foot social distancing rule has me spoiled.
R.P. let’s put this in a little more context. The DFB folks are pretty responsible. If u want detailed critical peer reviewed analysis, there is always the JAMA blog or the Lancet blog. If they have one. A.J.’s not trying to foment a health emergency in Florida.
I heard the 6 ft. rule was based on a study done around the turn of the century dealing with TB. We will see what happens. Florida is doing a great job protecting the vulnerable and getting them vaccinated. I’m thinking Disney is working on getting their front line workers vaccinations as well.
I agree with Jim..
This is terrible!!! Disney guest don’t adhere to the 6 ft rule!!
RP, please calm down. I watched the Fauci interview in which he confirmed the Mass. study and said the CDC would have new guidance “very soon.” The very soon and “you won’t have to wait long….” was repeated by Dr. Fauci several times. There’s nothing propaganda on the page. DFB is just repeating what came out the other day.
Should Dr. Fauci, (and anyone else) who is “guessing” what/when revisions/updates etc. will be made to Covid protocols, refrain until there is agreement in the medical community?
Speculations steeped in politics seem to create heightened unrest/anger/finger pointing/name-calling.
If a committee of scientific professionals cited studies with statistically significant evidence in an apolitical bipartisan manner, would credibility increase and partisian fighting decrease???
