Disney has placed disclaimers on certain classic films on Disney+, noting that they contain negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures.

But now Disney has completely removed some titles containing “negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures” from children’s accounts on Disney+.
According to the Mirror, several movies have been totally REMOVED from Disney+ kids profiles, so now they can only be watched with parental consent. The films removed are Dumbo, Aladdin (including the sequels and Live Action version), Peter Pan, Swiss Family Robinson, Lady and the Tramp, and The Aristocats.

We tested this out ourselves and the films do not appear on the kids profiles, but do appear on the adults ones. For example, when we searched for Dumbo in a kids account on Disney+, nothing appeared.

In comparison, when we searched for Dumbo on an adult account, both the live action and the original animated film, as well as Operation Dumbo Drop, appeared.

Disney+ notes that the Kids Profiles limit the content accessible to titles rated TV-7FV and G in the United States. The movies removed from the Kids Profiles previously had disclaimers on them, warning viewers that they may contain negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. They continue to have those disclaimers when viewed through an adult Disney+ account.

Last year, we asked our readers on Instagram what they think about Disney+ censoring content, and of the 218 initial responses, the majority said they don’t think Disney+ should censor their content. But, others said there should be censoring or censoring in some cases. What are your thoughts on this change?

The films that have been removed from the kids accounts are still visible through Disney+ adult accounts, so it is not as though they’ve been removed from the service entirely. Kids just won’t be able to play them from their own kid-friendly accounts.
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates on Disney+ and let you know what we spot.
Yup. I noticed this happened with the Disney Channel series Jessie. My kids had been watching it this weekend when it stopped playing for them. Frustrated them because they were actively watching the show, and it was still in their Continue Watching list. I’ll give Disney support kudos for actually working with me for 30min to try to figure out what was going on.
With all due respect it isn’t Disney’s place to parent our children. I feel that these movies are an awesome opportunity for families to open discussion about the subject matter. This “whitewash” of our history is problematic, when we deny the bad history we are opening society up to repeating history.
I have no problem with this. There is a huge difference between censoring content and requiring parental consent to watch content. And in response to the comment above, I think this is Disney letting you do the job of parenting your children, whether that is choosing to let them watch, choosing to let them watch and discussing the issues, or not permitting them to watch.
I bet you as soon as Broadway opens back up, Aladdin & Hamilton are the first shows up & running. Money talks more loudly than cultural appropriation.
Just because the schools want to ban black history doesn’t make it never have happened. I’d say leave the parenting to parenting to parents if all did, but, that’s Not Disney’s call. The TV set was never designed to be the babysitter, as it has become. Nonetheless blackhistory, Irish history and them coming on the boat for a better life Did happen to my roots. It Was a tough life when they came. Civil War happened, holocaust, ww1,ww2 Did all happen. Black face Did happen. But can’t we learn from it? Guess we haven’t to, look what’s going on today. So, Disney, come on. If you are taking away all things wrong and corrupt, take away your magic. That’s a fake false sense of security. It’s not real. So now, there you go, your cinderella dreams are gone. Happily ever after really does not come true– for all of us.
