There are currently several Walt Disney World attractions under refurbishment!
The Walt Disney World Railroad has been down for a good while now due to construction with the TRON coaster, we recently saw the Rivers of America get drained for a refurbishment on the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island, and don’t even get us started on the PeopleMover! The slow-moving ride through Tomorrowland never reopened with Magic Kingdom, and we keep seeing the refurbishment end date getting pushed back. Now, we may soon be adding another ride to the list — Kali River Rapids in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
This attraction is a whitewater rapids-style adventure through Asia. Guests who don’t like getting wet usually avoid this ride, as you’re likely to get uncomfortably soaked! Because many people don’t like being wet in the wintertime (it really DOES get chilly in Florida…occasionally!), Disney typically puts their water rides under refurbishment during this time of the year.
When we checked the operating hours for Kali River Rapids in January, we noticed that no hours were available starting on January 3rd, 2021. There are no scheduled times for any of the rest of the days through the end of the calendar, which extends to January 27th, 2021. The hours listed on Disney’s website have recently been a big help in determining reopening schedules, so we suspect they’ll be correct regarding closures as well.
While Disney hasn’t announced this attraction is closing up for a refurb, past years seem to indicate that could be likely what is happening in January. We’ll keep an eye out for any refurbishment news on this attraction, as well as any other ride updates. In the meantime, make sure to stay tuned to DFB for all your news on Disney’s reopening, the holidays, and general theme park fun!

I would love for it to be open in March when we plan to go. It’s one of our favorites and I feel like March is generally warm enough to have it open. ??It was closed last year in March before covid.
