When you’re packing your day bag, the new normal is to make sure you’ve got an extra face mask with you on top of your sunscreen and sunglasses before hitting the parks.
Although the switch to new health and safety measures might still feel unfamiliar to anything we’ve experienced in the past, Disney World has placed an importance on the well-being of guests and Cast Members returning to the parks.
In our My Disney Experience app, we recently received a “thank you” notice from the Disney Parks for wearing our face masks and following the new safety regulations.
After clicking the push notification, we were taken to a page inside the app that gave us the option to “Learn More” about the health and safety guidelines in the parks.
The “Learn More” tab provides additional detailed information about what guests can expect before returning to the parks. Along with distancing measures in place, Disney has continued to update its face mask policies in the parks to reflect CDC guidelines.
The updated policy includes statements that guests can only remove their masks when they are actively eating or drinking and stationary and that masks must remain on while they’re taking photos. Disney World has also put signage up in the parks reflecting the rule that anybody who chooses not to wear a face mask properly will be asked to leave.
As Disney continues to add new safety measures to the parks during this time, we’ll make sure to keep you up-to-date on everything you need to know before your vacation. And, we’re here to answer any questions you may have about how your upcoming trip to Disney World could change!
Disney World has asked guests to reschedule their park visits if they can’t follow the face mask guidelines!

Thanking the public for wearing masks is patronizing. If I don’t wear one, I will be escorted out by security. The rules on mask wearing that they come up with go beyond state and federal regulations. When will the governor intervene?
Beautiful, more like ugly. The U. S. has over 8 million covid cases because too many people won’t wear a mask. In Canada, we wear masks and have 200,000 cases. The population of US is only 9 times that of Canada. Wear a mask, show respect and follow the rules on this private property. If you don’t like Disney, don’t go.
Disney World is private property and can make the rules for their property as they see fit. The governor can’t make them loosen their rules.
As a DVC member I will be returning to the parks and property when mask are no longer needed…
I have a problem breathing for an extended amount of time. The food store visits are very short waiting to breath again..
Wear masks but for me it is about problem in breathing…
Compliance in the parks is pretty darn good. However at our resort, Saratoga Springs it’s awful. On the walkways around the resort and the walkway to Disney Springs, probably only 50% were masked up. There are NO cast members enforcing the rules. We talked to the resort and they apologized but said they really weren’t equipped to do enforcement. Very disappointing.
The governor can NOT legally intervene.
As a private business, Disney can evict you at any time if you do not follow the posted rules of conduct.
If necessary, they can also PERMANENTLY forbid you from returning. This is perfectly legal.
Yes, you could file suit against Disney. You MIGHT get lucky and get your vacation expenses refunded.
Not likely. Disney wins those sorts of suits all the time, even when they involve specifically Constitutionally mandated rights, like the Right to Arm Bears.
First, I am a huge Disney Fan and I bought the DFB guides this year. However, we just wrapped up a trip to Disney World last week and I was very disappointed with the incessant scolding, signage, and announcements. Then one afternoon I received 20 plus notifications about wearing a mask. I have made this known to my hotel, Disney, and other blogs. But, there HAS to be some moderation. We won’t be back until there is. We are cancelling a trip next month because of this. The magic is just gone. I’m not anti-mask, but I stopped looking at cast members so I wouldn’t get scolded for standing too close to someone or my mask slipped slightly off my nose. And often, that was the first thing they would say to you.
Additionally, I don’t believe when you are walking by yourself or with your family outside the parks, that you should have to wear your mask. I was sitting on a bench, not another person in sight, drinking water when a security guard got a couple feet from me and told me to pull up my mask. In fact, I think the masks outside are making the situation potentially more dangerous as you have to get very close to hear and cast members are routinely chatting within a foot apart.
The pools are a great place to be mask-free and stay distanced. Everyone was doing that very well. And dining was also such a wonderful break. Of course, all cast members were not this way. But it was so evident, that my flexible husband became angry about it. With so many closures, no entertainment, no pre-shows, no (good) photos, no park-hopping, and snarky cast members–it doesn’t make sense to spend thousands of dollars to visit right now. I went last week in order to experience some magic, support Disney and the cast members. Unfortunately, I feel some of the heavy-handed health “guidelines” will have the opposite effect that Disney wants. I believe they have a fine line to walk, but they need to start walking it to bring back everyone.
Disney is a private company. They can set their own policies. The Florida governor, as lax as he is on Covid-19 prevention strategies, can’t intervene in a private company’s health and safety policies, unless those policies are also lax and putting people in danger. If someone is unable to wear a face covering or doesn’t want to do so, they should postpone their visit. A trip to WDW isn’t essential for anyone, no matter how much we might need a vacation.
