Have you ever picked up a fork and thought to yourself, “I wish this was hollow”?
If you answered YES, then we’ve found the PERFECT utensils for you! If you answered NO, then you’ll probably just want to read on out of sheer curiosity… .
We’ve encountered some… unusual things in our Disney dining experiences. After all, this is a place where mouth-numbing cocktails and Poop Candy (you read that right) were (and some still ARE) real things.
Now we can add an interesting utensil to our ever-growing list of Disney eccentricities!
It’s a plastic fork-and-knife combo that snaps apart, revealing a fork with a “hollow” knife-shaped middle! This is the strangest fork-shaped thing we’ve seen since Forky! And it’s not nearly as cool as our spork friends in Galaxy’s Edge.
Curiously enough, these are found at BOTH Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney in Disneyland Resort, and Chicken Guy in Disney Springs! So clearly there’s some cross-country hollow fork synergy going on. (Also, how much do you love the name of these? “Snap out of it.” Good reminder.)
After getting over the mere strangeness of these utensils, it begs the question: would you prefer to eat with them?
On the one hand, it sure is convenient to combine two utensils in one handy wrapper, and it means fewer things you’ll have to grab with your meal! Also, it cuts down on plastic use, which is GREAT for the environment, so that’s awesome!
On the other hand, what if your finger keeps slipping through the middle of the fork? What if you keep squeezing the plastic together and it’s hard to grip? What if it BREAKS? And the biggest question of all — WHY DOES MY SPOON GET NO RESPECT?!
So many questions, not many answers. Just opinions.
How do YOU feel about these??? YAY, less plastic? Or OK that’s just going to be uncomfortable? Let us know!

What do you think of these utensils?! Let us know in the comments!
Actually more plastic. forks break, awkward to use. Hate them!
I think it’s great! Less plastic! Very clever!
Just no!
Super Yay to less plastic. So many people grab things that they don’t even need to. Why would you need a knife with Mac and Cheese?! This will hopefully cut back on things like that happening.
I like the idea of less plastic, but if you actually use the fork and the knife ends there’s just no way to keep from getting your hands messy.
If they really want to do this right, compostable utensils. The latest generation of them work great with both cold and hot foods. And NO plastic.
I see no savings, I personally will grab two.
Hate the design, somethings are just meant to be.
Looks great! My only concern would be that the fork handle might not be sturdy enough. I guess time will tell!
Why have a fork and a knife when you only need a fork? Seems a waste.
Ingenious….
OMG!! This is awful! Mine broke and was very hard to deal with. Very awkward. I went through several. Give me the old fashioned plastic utensils any day!! I expect something better than this from Disney!!
It really depends on what you are eating. Whether it saves plastic use is debatable, how many just grab two and don’t bother separating them?
Just kind of weird…
Why is everyone so mad about utensils?!
I think this is clever and innovative. A great new way to combine both utensils while saving some plastic.
Stop worrying about utensils and enjoy the magic of Disney!
As long as I can hold a fork in one hand and a knife in the other and are both sturdy enough, I’m happy!!
Hi Matt,
Snap Cutlery was created to address the reduction of cutlery related waste. 40B utensils are thrown out annually. Less than 9% of the worlds plastic being recycled. Designs that stray from the A typical standard every day mass produced items, are what is likely going to create a cleaner more environmentally sound planet. At the current rate of which plastic is being disposed of , by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish. A Snap Cutlery Forknife ( what is featured in the photo, is approximately 40% LESS waste when compared to traditional multi utensil cutlery combinations. Snap Cutlery’s Sporknife, replacing the need for standard spoon, fork and knife reduces waste but as much as half and in some cases it surpassed a 60% waste reduction based on volume.
We do appreciate you taking the time to write about Snap Cutlery and I certainly appreciate your inquisitive nature. Asking questions is understandable and it additionally allows us the opportunity to address the nature of the product. http://www.snapcutlery.com
I understand where they are going with this, but how hard is it to take your own set of reusable cutlery? Not very hard. Lick it clean, wipe it down, stow it until you need it again, and then wash it up in the hotel sink. Probably not going to get seriously ill if you have normal immunity. I mean, if you are willing to lick a pacifier clean then give it back to your kid, or share a straw or plastic bottle, I think reusable cultery isn’t any worse for germs.
The plastic saved in the utensil is replace with the plastic bag. Neither are recyclable. Single use plastic is a serious environmental problem.
Jessica, Yes that is a great way to approach doing your part to combat waste and I commend your efforts in doing so. However, in the meantime we needed to think of ways to accommodate that the remaining 97%+ of people who do not. As long as advancements are being made to accommodate a greener future and reduce waste the earth we will be better off and therefore our health will be also. I do appreciate your candid insight and I hope you and your family have a wonderful 2021!
Kim
Kimberly, I appreciate the detailed replies but single-use plastics remain a problem that need to be resolved. They’re just not getting recycled… Time to remove them and offer alternatives. Other parks are able to, so I’m sure Disney could as well.
Hi Caroline,
We currently do offer biodegradable as well as a compostable options . The difference is this, compostable cutlery while with the best intentions in mind has to be sent to an industrial sized composting facility, heated up to 130 degrees or higher and turned daily to degrade any faster than its counterparts such as a pp or ps.
Biodegradable utensils typically are a base of either a pp or ps or a mixture of one of these paired with strengthening agents and variables of such approved resin additives.
What triggered the lightbulb for Snap is the fact that 9% of worlds plastics is being recycled, compared to the opposing 91% that isn’t being addressed, for what it is. Predominately wasteful designs that can be refined if simple design tweaks are instituted. Covid was rough for many business and therefor offering a ps option that still reduces waste compared to the alternative kits combinations, is in my mind a good start.
We do value your feedback and appreciate your concern for the environment. Thank you Caroline.
