California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of the most sought-after reservations in all of Walt Disney World.
Not only does this signature dining restaurant have some phenomenal sushi and a bright and airy atmosphere, it also has some SERIOUSLY incredible views.
The stunning sights are best seen from the outside observation deck, located on a walkway just by the restaurant! Since Walt Disney World has reopened with new health and safety measures, we wanted to see if guests could still step out onto the deck and what that experience looks like.
The first thing that you notice when stepping out onto the deck are blue social distancing markers, designating where groups should stand. This system is similar to the markers that we’ve seen on the ferryboat going to Magic Kingdom.
Once you get out on to the deck, of course, the views of the Most Magical Place on Earth are still totally and completely spectacular. You can see the newly pink Cinderella Castle in all her glory as well as Astro Orbiter, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the rest of the Magic Kingdom!
One of the biggest differences you’ll notice beyond the social distancing markers is that there are no fireworks happening at the Magic Kingdom (or the rest of Walt Disney World) right now. When Disney announced that the resort would reopen, they also announced certain experiences, like nighttime shows, would not be happening right away.
So, while you won’t see (or hear) Happily Ever After right now, you still CAN get some seriously sweet selfies from the deck after eating scrumptious sushi!

While I was looking at the photos you had taken from the deck at the California Grill. It dawned on me why Disney is not doing any Night Time Shows. At first I thought it was, because of social distanced, or people removing their face coverings. Which still may be a concern for Disney. But I believe, it is the share expense of doing a Night Time Show, for so few people. I do not fault Disney, if that is the reason. I just had not even thought of that until, I looked at your photos.
