As many of you may know, Disney is implementing a BRAND NEW reservation system for their grand reopening and up until this point, we had VERY few details on how the system would operate.
Now, Disney World has just released ALL the details on when this new system will go live and what guests will need to do in order to get a reservation.
Beginning June 22, Disney Resort guests and other select hotel guests with valid theme park admission can make reservations. On June 26th, Annual Passholders WITHOUT a resort stay can make reservations. Then on June 28, existing ticket holders can make reservations.
These theme park reservations will be available through September 26, 2021, and will be based on your resort stay and ticket eligibility or ticket eligibility window.
How Disney’s New Reservation System Works
Step 1: Link Your Admission to Your Disney Account
Step 2: Create Your Party from your Friends and Family list
Step 3: Select a Date and Park
Step 4: Review and Confirm Your Plans
Additional Details
Disney has shared a few specific details regarding reservations. For starters, “reservations are limited and subject to availability and are not guaranteed until a reservation is finalized.”
Disney also shared information about park hopping. When the parks reopen, guests will initially be able to select ONE park per day. Park hopping will be temporarily unavailable due to capacity limits.
We have all the details regarding Park Hopping here.
A reservation MUST be made EACH day of entry. That means that even if you have a multi-day ticket, you will need to make a park reservation for each day you plan to visit the parks.
Disney highly recommends “that you make your park reservation as soon as you complete your ticket purchase, as availability can change until the reservation is finalized.”
Future Disney Vacation Details
According to Disney, “If you booked a vacation package, your ticket eligibility is tied to your package travel dates. To make a park reservation for a different date, be sure to modify your vacation package dates.”
Ticket Sales and Hotel Reservations
Disney is planning to resume ticket sales and new hotel reservations later this summer.
This will all be based on the availability of park reservations.
You can read MORE about Disney resuming ticket sales and hotel bookings here.
2021 Vacation Information
Now, for those of you who have a hotel stay at a Disney Resort or other select hotel in 2021, Disney has said to “please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.”
Guests looking to book a 2021 vacation will be able to do so by June 28th.

Disney World will begin its phased reopening of its theme parks on July 11th and select hotels will reopen on June 22nd. We will be reporting on all the need-to-know details, so be sure to stay tuned.

Question
DeVane
What do I do if I have a stay setup in Nov of this year at Old key west and don’t have tickets yet?
How do I get tickets before the window opens up to get reservation to get into parks?
Hi! Is there a limited amount of days you can book the reservations for? We’re planning a week in December. Thanks!
I have Disney hotel reservations and an annual pass/DVC
So It looks like I can book 6/22 at 7 am
but could you be exact-
How to do this?
Use a Desktop to which Disney website to book?
Not my Disney experience?
So do we just log in and this new park reservation system will be there?
Do we need our pass info (it’s already saved in my Disney Experience? )
Ty!
When making our reservations, they want us to give them a time as well? What’s up with that?
Rachelle, you will want to make sure your confirmed ticket and Resort info is in your My Disney Experience. Likewise be sure anyone in your party is linked to your My Disney Experience account. Disney didn’t provide a link or a URL for the Disney Park Pass; we expect it will be live in your Disney account because they used that term — Disney account. As far as we know, it will not be active in the My Disney Experience app, so you will need a web browser to do it. I hope that helps.
Lili, we have not seen a limit on the number of days you can book the Disney Park Pass. I’ll check with the team to be sure I didn’t miss the info and update if there is a limit.
Thanks for sharing, Christine!
Michael, here’s the official word from Disney that addresses your situation: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.”
Any idea if we’ll have to make a reservation for a specific time to enter a park? And will we be able to leave the park for a while to rest up or swim or whatever and come back to the same park?
We have rescheduled three times and now ours is the third week in February do we need to schedule that far ahead for reserving the park dates
Angie, no way to know how quickly reservations will be booked up — or even what will really be happening when we get to February. I don’t want to tell you that you can wait, and then have you get stuck, so it’s going to have to be your call. Good luck!
Carol, we do not know about the time aspect of the new system or if you’ll be able to leave and return, but we will update whatever we find out on MOnday (or sooner, if DIsney releases info).
Vanie, the info says to “select a time”, but we don’t know what that really means at this point. We will update as soon as we know.
Bill, Disney has said this about room-only reservations: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.” I don’t know if this helps some or all of your family and friends, but if you’ve got a big group question, perhaps try giving Disney a call, too.
Amy, we have not seen this info in the official Disney language today.
Kimberly, good question. This is what Disney says on the site about room-only reservations: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.” You might try calling to clarify.
Kailey, if you have the confirmation number in your Disney account, you should be okay. I’m not 100% sure how David’s works, but perhaps his team can help answer that, too.
Susan, we don’t have clear answers on either of these questions yet, but we will update as soon as we do.
Michelle, I think this language from Disney’s Disney Park Pass page reflects your situation: “Beginning June 28, 2020, existing ticket holders can make reservations.”
Amelia, our understanding is that if you do NOT have a Disney Resort stay also booked, you’ll be limited to three days worth of reservations. If you DO have a Disney Resort stay planned, you can book the number of days of your Resort stay. If we find out anything different as the system rolls out, we will update.
Hi, Sandra. Our understanding is that if you’ve got a Resort reservation, you’re able to book for the length of your Resort stay or stays. And as for where to find the Disney Park Pass system, we expect it will NOT be on the app, so we think folks need to get on a laptop/tablet/wherever they use a web browser. I hope this helps, and we will update if anything changes between now and Monday.
Kyle, you’ll need to call Disney to be sure about discounts and modifications. We have, unfortunately, gotten so much conflicting information, I would feel better if you got this info from Disney themselves. Good luck!
Melissa, I think you may be able to call to modify (or go online to modify) if your trip is coming up in the next 3-4 weeks. But information is changing daily, so I think you’ll want to give Disney reservations a call on this one. Thanks for reading!
Lorelei, if you have existing valid tickets but no Resort stay, Disney says this: “Beginning June 28, 2020, existing ticket holders can make reservations.”
Justin, really no idea on this, but I’m going to add it to the list of questions I’ve got for the team and see if we can answer it.
Amanda, we haven’t seen limitations on how far out you can book Disney Park Passes in the official language today, but they included September 26, 2021, as a cut-off. Not sure about blackout dates. Here’s the AP page in case it’s helpful.
Justin, added this to the list of questions for us to dig into.
Kathleen, if you have a Disney Resort reservation, this info from Disney applies, I believe: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.” Disney also added this: “Guests will be able to view park reservation availability online prior to purchasing their tickets.” Hopefully that info helps! Here’s the page with official language, too.
David, I think that’ll depend on your comfort level with having confirmed plans. We don’t know how quickly reservations will go or what Park capacity will be like, unfortunately. Good luck!
Megan, Disney says this about room-only Resort reservations: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.”
More questions to add to yuor list.
Any idea on what sort of time window there will be for entering a park. For example if you select a 10am entry time, what kind of leeway will you have. Given that the bus system will probably take a lot longer and be very unpredictable, what leeway will we have.
Any idea if we can leave a park and then return to that same park for a dinner reservation or will we have to stay all day to eat dinner?
Hi DFB Team, I tried to see if this was already answered. Sorry if it’s a repeat. With the reservation system if I’m staying at a Disney resort and I have a park reservation for Animal Kingdom let’s say. Am I’m allowed to go back to my room for a refresher and then go back into the park later that day?
Thanks so much for all of the great info! Has anything been shared regarding refunds or price adjustments on park hopper passes that have already been purchased? If we paid for that option but now cannot hop across parks, that doesn’t feel right from a pricing standpoint. Thanks for any insight you have!
Katherine, I’m dropping Disney’s language regarding Park Hoppers (apologies — it’s lengthy — but I want you to see the exact language for clarity’s sake):
“At this time, Guests will only be able to visit one park per day. If you have a ticket that includes the Park Hopper Option or Park Hopper Plus Option, we have several options available to you:
Ticket Extension: You may use your current date-based ticket by September 26, 2021 with the existing add-on options, should the options return by that date.
Ticket Modification: Resort Packages with tickets may be modified or cancelled. To discuss your options, please call the Disney Reservation Center at (407) W-DISNEY or (407) 934-7639 beginning June 22, or contact your travel professional.
Ticket Cancellation: If you do not want to use your ticket, you also have the option of cancelling your ticket or package. To discuss your options, please call the Disney Reservation Center at (407) 566-4985 beginning June 22, or contact your travel professional.”
Serena, we’ve seen this question many times, and Disney has not officially said yes. However, we expect that guests will be able to leave and return. We will update when we confirm (probably not until the system goes live on Monday).
George, thanks for the questions! We will update on what “time” means for the Disney Park Pass and how that might be impacted by, as you’ve pointed out, sometimes unpredictable transportation or other issues. We also don’t have confirmation that guests will be able to leave and come back, but we think the answer will be yes. Still, we want to confirm as soon as possible.
Thanks for the great info. We’re DVC members with resort reservations in Oct and Nov. We were planning to buy Annual Passes which are not currently for sale. Do you know if we’ll be able to buy tickets/Annual Passes on June 24th as well?
I am from the UK and rescheduled my family trip from Sept 2020 to May 2021. We reluctantly paid over £1,000 more for the trip and now have no dining plan which was included with the original trip because we didn’t want to disappoint our kids who had been looking forward to a trip to Disney for over a year. We have taken a risk and hope Disney offer some sort of promotion down the line. As a further blow today after being unable to update My Disney Experience with my new booking and spending 2hrs on hold to their support desk I was told that since I am a UK booking my reservation details have to be input manually and this can take up to 30days to show so I will not be able to access the reservation system on 22 June. I was told to keep checking back within the 30 days and to keep trying to link my reservation so I can then make my selections. There is no way to tell how fast the days will book out and I am really worried as we will not be able to take advantage of booking early with other resort guests when this opens. This is something disney pushed as being a benefit to not cancelling and rescheduling there and then. I think the way Disney is treating their UK guests is shocking and I am really disappointed.
Hi
I still have tickets purchased through Floridatix for 14 days that were going to be used from 1st April to 14th April 2020 but the vacation was cancelled. I have not rebooked my vacation yet (still trying to get my money back from Virgin Holidays) but I am going to rebook the holiday for next year (2021) not sure what month. I will be staying in a villa in Haines. What do I do with my tickets now?.
Kind regards
Kim
DFB- Sarah, any update or answer yet to my question about getting park tickets for “room-only” reservations for 2020? Do we have to upgrade to a package?
Any idea what capacity the hotels will be at? 50, 75, 100%? I was thinking that if the hotels are at a high capacity, transportation will be a major problem with social distancing. And if the parks are at low capacity, there are going to be a lot of people with nothing to do except maybe swim. And you can’t even play mini golf.
Carol, Disney has not released this information. We’ll try to get a sense of the crowds when we’re on-site tomorrow.
Arlene, hi! If you already have a 2020 Resort reservation but no tickets yet, this is the info that applies to you: “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.” Does that help? You’ll be required to purchase tickets before you can make your Disney Park Pass reservation.
Hi, Kim. I’m not sure. I think your best bet will be to reach out to Floridatix to see what they say. Then you may need to contact Disney, depending on what Floridatix says. Good luck!
Bex84, I can understand that must be so disappointing. I’m pulling for your reservation details to be in there soon and for the Disney Park Pass to be available to you. Hopefully since you’re booking pretty far in advance, it’ll all work out (and honestly, who knows what will really be happening in 11 months, right?). Best wishes!
Marie, since you have a Resort reservation (a room-only reservation), you should be eligible to purchase your tickets on June 24. I have seen one reader comment that they were able to add a ticket via DVC Member Services (even when Disney wasn’t allowing for new purchases), but we haven’t confirmed that. Might be worth a call, though!
DFB – Sarah- THANK YOU for taking time out on Father’s Day to answer these questions! I really appreciate it! I hope you and the DFB team realize how much comfort (sanity) , and reassurance you bring to all of us! I feel like you and the team are our “advocates” helping us to understand and interpret all of the “Disney speak“ and get to the bottom of these confusing issues. I’m sure I speak for all of us by saying a big “Thank You!!” for all that you do and a “Happy Father’s Day” to all the Dads on the DFB team and to their families as well!
: )
I think I will give Disney a call to find out what the situation is concerning 2020 “ room onlY” Reservations and park reservations. Disney made it clear about 2021, but nothing has been addressed about 2020 as yet.
If I get any additional information from them I will post it here for you!
Also wanted to give you an update from a previous post. I found out (by calling Disney myself ) that my AP expired on June 13, 2020. While a cast member had previously promised me that I would get a reminder phone call or email before that date, I never did. I ended up calling the AP desk on June 14th because I thought that would be the last day I could renew my AP.
( My original expiration date was May 14, 2020 + the 30 day grace period) But I was wrong – I was told that my AP had expired the day before and that they could not renew it at the renewal price. I was told that I could take it up with Guest Services in the parks next time I go to Disney World. Hmmm? Don’t know how that will work since our next trip is not until November.
So maybe a warning to everyone else? Keep your eye on your AP expiration dates and call back often to re-check the dates!
Thank you so much, Arlene. It’s my (and our) pleasure to help as much as we can.
Apologies if I already dropped this quote here for you before, but this is the language Disney has provided for room-only reservations, including those for 2020. “If you have a room-only reservation at a Disney Resort or other select hotel for a stay in 2021, please call the Disney Reservation Center or call your travel professional beginning on June 24 to upgrade to a vacation package with tickets—and then make your theme park reservations.” Definitely give Disney a call to find out what applies to your situation, but I wanted you to have the language in case it’s helpful. Have a lovely evening!
Hello! I have tickets for my family with a start date of December 28. Our vacation will go until January 6. We’re staying in an area timeshare, not a Disney resort. My date for making a park reservation is June 28. However, I also saw that tickets for 2021 will go on sale BY June 28, which to me sounds like possibly before the 28th. Will I be “competing” with new ticket purchasers for my early January reservations dates and times? That doesn’t make it seem like I have much of an advantage for having tickets in hand if I’m reading this correctly. I just want to make sure I’m not missing something!
DFB- Sarah, I did reach out to Disney and after almost an hour on hold I was connected to the ticketing desk. Here’s what I was told concerning guest like myself who have “room only” Reservations in 2020, but no park tickets yet. The cast member on the phone told me the following:
1) The sale of Individual park tickets (meaning non-Resort package tickets) will become available for purchase after 6/28/20 for “Room-Only” stays in 2020.
2) You will not need to upgrade to a Resort package to purchase park tickets.
3) Although right now only “Resort packages” will be available for purchase starting in January 2021, the sale of individual tickets without a Resort package should become available not long after the January package sales start. The cast member said that new Resort packages are usually offered first before new Individual ticket sales.
So that’s the information I was given today and as we know by tomorrow everything could change again. But I hope this helps someone who like myself was wondering when individual ticket sales would be made available for Guest with “room only” reservations in 2020.
