Earlier this week, we reported that Shanghai Disneyland is prepping to open March 11th. The resort has already implemented new health screening protocols for guests as they slowly re-opened limited shopping, dining, and recreational experiences.
Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek announced additional precautions the parks would take during the re-opening and now we can see for ourselves exactly what these precautions will look like from the guests’ perspective.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Shanghai Disneyland’s senior vice president of operations, Andrew Bolstein, walked reporters through exactly what the park will look like with new procedures in place for Monday’s re-opening.
Guest will first have their temperatures taken, then proceed to a socially-distanced security screening. Government mandates restrict the park from operating above 30% its normal capacity (about 24,00 visitors a day). But Chapek stated the park plans to start at a much lower capacity and work towards the 30% mark.
Cast Members will be stationed throughout the park to promote social distancing. Although full parades, fireworks, and meet-and-greets are not scheduled to resume immediately, Bolstein noted “a small procession of a couple of floats will come out throughout the day and surprise our guests, hopefully.”
Guests will be permitted to watch shows with their group in designated boxes marked on the ground — one meter from the next group.
Queues will be marked with lines on the ground and reminders to socially distance. And ride vehicles will even have markers to indicate where to sit. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean will leave empty rows of seats between guests.
You can find out more details and see the new procedures for yourself in the video below!
