Something happened under-the-radar last night while all of us were sleeping!
But luckily for YOU, our Mickey senses were tingling this morning when we woke up (they’re especially sensitive when it comes to price increases!). And you know those already pricey character meals at Disney World? Well, they just got EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE!
While we’re big fans of dining with some of our favorite Disney characters instead of spending valuable park time waiting in lines to meet them, we know these character meals don’t come cheap. And if your on a tight Disney World budget (who isn’t?), a price hike (even a small one) might be enough to knock a character meal off your vacation agenda!

Hiya Pal!
That’s why when we noticed this morning several of the character meals had just raised their prices on the down-low, we just HAD to tell ya! Note that this is actually not all that uncommon for these meals to increase in price each year, but we still want you to be in the know that it happened! So far, here’s the list of character meals we’ve seen affected by these price increases!
- 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
- Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Disney’s BoardWalk Inn’s Trattoria al Forno
- Hollywood & Vine at Hollywood Studios
- Garden Grill at Epcot
- Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom
- Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort
- Storybook Dining at Artist’s Point at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
- Akershus Royal Banquet at Epcot
- Tusker House at Animal Kingdom
- ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Adult prices for character meals at the locations listed above (including breakfast, lunch, and dinner) have all gone up $1. That may not seem like much, but the real kicker is the new kids’ character meals cost. You see, they’ve all increased by $3-$4 across the board. Considering you could be traveling with 2, 3, 4 or even more kiddos, this small price increase could majorly impact your bottom line.
If you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, you might think you’re immune to this recent price hike, but keep in mind you’ll still have to pay gratuity, which will be higher now that the prices have gone up! Granted, it’s not a HUGE increase, but still noteworthy!
If you’ll recall, we saw several popular Disney parks foods and beverages receive big price increases this fall — along with inflation on our beloved Minnie Ears! And sadly, some of our favorite off-the-menu items weren’t spared from price hikes EITHER! Our beloved secret menu $5 Noods at Tambu Lounge are now $9 Noods and the ‘Ohana Bread Pudding now costs a whopping $12!

We will continue to sniff out more sneaky Disney price increases, but, for now, you should probably be prepared to shell out a few more dollars for certain items and experiences on your next trip to Disney World! Tax? With the DDP
I thought it was just Gratuity?
Topolino’s Terrace also went up to $42 this morning from my experience!
We’re go every year but we don’t go for just the food. At leafy not anymore. We’re easy at Germany every year. Very authentic. The worst I’ve had in years, we will never waste our time again. Most of Disney’s flood is nothing to brag about but Japans was pretty fabulous.
“If you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, you might think you’re immune to this recent price hike, but keep in mind you’ll still have to pay tax and gratuity”. Can you please confirm? I thought you only had to pay gratuity on the dining plan. Thanks.
Debbie (and others who’ve commented on gratuity/tax): we’ve clarified in the post. Gratuity is the only cost not included in DDP. Thanks for reading and commenting!
why does this NOT surprise me that Disney is raising prices. I’m glad I just want to go one more time to see the Star Wars Land and on coaster then I can move on from going to Disney and going to see other places in this crazy world we live in
Is Akershus in Norway just a character dinner now?
I know you said they went up $1 but do you know where I can find the current costs? I’m trying to find out how much breakfast is at Crystal Palace, Tusker House and 1900 Park Fare with the current increase.
Disney is getting ridiculous with their prices. I happen to know a chef out there, and he told me that Disney has raised prices in most all restaurants AND they have cut portion size…..So you now pay more and get less. Ridiculous. The greed gets worse and worse. And people still keep paying…that’s also ridiculous. It’s not worth paying these prices and leaving hungry, and the buffets are full of cheap, ordinary, food. No thanks.
Do you think there may be an increase to the dining plan as well for 2020 soon? If we’re planning to go in July, do you recommend we buy it now?
I love love Disney but paying upwards of 1000.00 dollars a day for a family (and that is with lower end hotels) to stand in lines for hours and have the magic broken by throngs of people and fighting for everything you want to see or do.
I’m about to swear off Disney for good and I know other families who have said never again.
Disney is building more hotels for more crowded parks. Does there marketing/customer service /planning department have no heart. ??
Now hopefully we won’t be getting another overnight shock when they do their next AP price HIKE!
Like last year’s surprise $250 JUMP with no warning.

I’m wondering when the public will say enough.
Sunah, last year DDP saw a price increase in June, but Disney is not always (ever?) consistent with their increases. I would recommend buying it as soon as you’re able to be sure you lock in the current price.
Mark, it’s still showing breakfast, lunch, and dinner online.
Folks love Disney and we all will continue to come. My family has been repeatedly coming since about 1979 when our kids were little. Both our children have kids of their own now and all come. It is expected and planned. This year it is Star Wars next year it will be TRON and guardians of the galaxy. We are pleased Disney is always adding new things to see and do. We love it see you all soon.
For June: I’m glad you and your family can afford Disney. Many can’t, which I very pathetic. No need to brag, June…
Margaret not bragging by any means. When we go to Disney we save and go when affordable and always look for specials such as free dining. This year we saved close to 1300.00 by being on top
Of things. We are your regular working family.
Have a great day
I love Disney, but I will admit the crowds have become extreme and the prices crazy. We went for the first time in 2011 and it was magical. I had never seen such clean parks and friendly cast members who went out of their way to make your trip incredible… and the bathrooms were spotless—every single one. It’s gone downhill for sure and yet we keep paying more and more for much less. We would go every year but now we’re cutting it back. There are so many better deals for vacations out there and Disney just doesn’t offer the same quality anymore. Just my opinion 🙂
You are SO right, Natasha….they have gone over the top with prices, while letting things go down hill…The part that really gets me is raising food prices, while cutting portion size…and THAT is a FACT because I know a few chefs there who said this is what they are having to do….Do you realize how much they can save by cutting meat portions by one ounce each? Look at how much they sell…they will pocket a fortune while you are still hungry after paying an small fortune for your food….No thank you.
2 adults. 4 kids. $500 for lunch at Norway.
