Early mornings and late nights in Magic Kingdom may get 10x easier for Grand Floridian and Polynesian Village Resort guests!
There is so much construction going on around Disney World right now. From the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Skyliner Gondola System, the parks are going all out to make travel much more convenient for guests as the 50th anniversary approaches for Walt Disney World.
And now there may be another convenience in the works that we’ve been hoping for for a LONG time… .
A recent permit filed seems to indicate that a walkway may be built between the Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom at some point. Or at least Disney World is laying the groundwork, so to speak, to allow for one to exist.
Since there is already a walkway between the Polynesian Village Resort and the Grand Floridian, this would mean that Polynesian Village Resort guests would also have walking access to the Magic Kingdom from their resort hotel.
And while there is a monorail system station at both resorts — and boats are available to and from the Magic Kingdom from both the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian — with this potential walkway, guests would be able to walk straight from their rooms to the Magic Kingdom for Extra Magic Hours or take a stroll back after fireworks on the walkway, avoiding the lines and crowds at the monorail and boat boarding stations.
Currently, only Disney’s Contemporary Resort has direct walking access to the Magic Kingdom, so this is an exciting and long-awaited development if it turns out to come to pass. Our fingers are crossed!

The walkways make sense… It seems to tie in to the removal of the personalized bricks that Disney is removing… and Disney never really gave us a clear answer as to why they were removing them… Now all the pieces of the Disney puzzle are coming together…
“Seems to indicate…”?
The name of the freakin’ project is “GRAND FLORIDIAN TO MK WALKWAY”. Yeah, I would say that might be a clue. Great sleuthing.
So could you walk from the ticket center to the MK?
I wonder how they will get beyond where the electrical water pageant is stored.
A skipper ones told me that at night animals (deers and bobcats) appear at the walkway. I’m talking about the walkway to the Grand Floridian, that’s stops at the side river (water peagent storage). Although I would love a walkway, would it be closed at night?
That would be great! While the boat ride is cool, it would be nice to have this other option.
Barbara, no word on this.
Steve, I think that’s right, yes.
What is the construction they ar doing along Monorail Drive & World Dr intersection ?? Looks like a retaining wall for the pond.
When stayed at the Polynesian back in the 70s and early 80’s (before GF), there was a walkway to Magic Kingdom. I rarely took the monorail at peak times. I am sure it would be easy to have a walkway reinstated for both resorts. We bounced over the years at different resorts and it was years since we returned to the Polynesian. My hsuband and I were surprised with our most recent stay at Poly, that we couldn’t walk to MK.
At EPCOT, the World Showcase Bridge near China is opened to allow the barges through for the fireworks. It’s possible a similar bridge could span the river that goes past the Electric Light Parade (ELP) docking facility and into Frontierland. It’s also possible the ELP docks could be moved to the harbor facilities on Bay Lake north of BLT. It’s even possible a pedestrian tunnel could go under the ELP river opening.
What’s going on in the landscaping on the SE side of MK, outside the railroad tracks, between the Main Street Station and Space Mountain?
My family has ALWAYS hoped that Disney would add a walkway between the Grand Floridian and the Magic Kingdom, especially after staying at the Grand Floridian for the first time last summer. That could also be another part of one of the race courses for any of the runs throughout the year. I hope that they add the walkway!
