Yesterday we shared a look at the looks coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in regards to Cast Member costumes and uniforms. Today, Disney has also released a photo gallery and more information about the significance in Black Spire Outpost of these unique costume styles.
Cast Members in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be “residents of the planet Batuu and carrying out their daily lives in Black Spire Outpost.” And the efforts towards authenticity will come through in the costumes of the Black Spire villagers, members of the Resistance, and The First Order. Even within those groups, the costumes will be varied and customizable. “Different styles and colors for pants and shirts, and optional accessories like scarves, hats and even necklaces, will allow Cast to mix and match to create [and] individualize their part of our Star Wars story.”
The Resistance and The First Order
For members of the Resistance, the military-inspired costumes will be “rugged” with a “soft, well-used feel.” The jackets and vests will utilize “patch details inspired by communicators worn in the films.” Hats will be optional and also useful when necessitated by weather.
The First Order costume will be “a powerful, charcoal grey military-style uniform with structured shoulders taken directly from the looks we’ve seen on screen.”
Black Spire Outpost Villagers
Mix-and-match is the name of the game for the costumes for the Black Spire Outpost villagers. The village costume collection “is comprised of multiple shirts, bottoms and vests for tons of mix and match options to suit preference and personality. There is also a suite of accessories including scarves, necklaces, hats and a versatile pouch to further customize their look.”
As for materials in all cases, a goal was to make the costumes as comfortable as possible. “Mesh panels make vests lighter, nylon makes a stretchy pant more unique, cotton creates a more breathable shirt. Comfort and durability are priorities when creating Cast costumes, so the team conducted a variety of tests to ensure the fabrics would wear well over time.”
With every bit of information — and there’s been a LOT of it — shared about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge over the last several hours, it’s clear that Planet Batuu will be unlike anything we’ve ever experienced in Disneyland, Disney World, or anywhere else in the galaxy before!
