In case we haven’t already mentioned it: Happy 40th Anniversary to Disneyland’s Space Mountain! But what to get for the mountain who’s got everything? How about a groovy, above-the-action, nighttime lounge for Disneyland guests?
What? That sounds like a gift for us? Good — because it is! May 26th marked the first ever Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience, a super-cool celebration of the out-of-this-world mountain (and land!) that has become a Disney icon!
The Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience gives guests a chance to hang out in a futuristic, glowing lounge; munch on tasty experience-themed treats; and (when the weather cooperates!) watch the fireworks from a vantage point above Tomorrowland. How sweet is that?
And lucky for us, our new Disneyland buddy Sabrina (@everythingdisney.55) was able to get in on the action! Now, for starters, you have to know: this Experience is $45 per guest over three years old, and you’ll definitely want to book it ahead of time. But on the evening of your booking, make your way to the check-in across from Star Traders.
The Experience lasts from 8-10PM, and Disney requests that you check in 15 minutes ahead of the lounge opening. Once you’ve checked in, you’ll get a wristband that allows you access to the Lounge, as well as reentry to the Lounge should you choose to come and go during the two hour block.
You’ll also get a lanyard, which we think is pretty awesome. It’s got a great pic and is a fun souvenir from your time in DL!
Included in the price of the Experience is — of course — the view overlooking Tomorrowland, the Hub, and the castle and the opportunity to really relax as you wind down your Disneyland day. And the Lounge is made for slipping into your retro cool, laid-back, vibing self. You know it’s in there.
Two words: Glow. Tables. They remind us of massive glow cubes (and you already know how we feel about glow cubes!). But, in fact, there’s lots of cool, unobtrusive lighting. Cool, unobtrusive neon lighting. Because #tomorrowland.
Ooh — but since it’s still 2017 actually, and our cell phone batteries don’t last indefinitely (Humbug! Future, where are you?!), there are handy charging stations all over the place. Now you can really relax.
Besides those low, Mad Men-style white couches, you’ll also find these psychedelic light-up tables. Which we totally love. Also: more neon.
But the best thing about a lounge — lighted tables or not — is kickin’ back with your buds. And the Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience has got you covered. You’ll find board games — yes, like with no buttons or batteries! — like Jenga and Connect 4.
Plus there’s a Star Wars bubble machine and lightsabers. Juuuuust in case any dark forces try to steal your lounge mojo.
So, once you’ve achieved maximum chill and had some fun, you’re gonna want snacks. And this partay has got you covered. Guests each receive a box of goodies.
The standard snack box has lots of tasty options squeezed inside its plastic, resealable container self! Center stage, of course, is the main mouse himself — in cake form! It’s the Mickey Cloud Cake, and it’s delicious in its simplicity.
It’s a cream-filled sponge cake — nothing fancy, but it’s Mickey-shaped and has something atmospheric in its name, so. Obvs it’s perfect for a party in space-tastic Tomorrowland!
Other sweet treats include the chocolate-covered chocolate cake called (wait for it) the Chocolate Eclipse, a miniature cherry Planetary Pie, and a sponge-and-strawberry confection called the Coconut Comet.
There’s one solid savory choice: Moon Rocks, a combination of Boursin, shredded cheddar and Jack, and cream cheeses topped with bacon and pimentos. Oh, and there are grapes. :p
Allergy-friendly boxes are available, so make sure you let the cast members know if you need one!
Guests can also choose a hot or cold beverage, including canned soda, bottled water, hot chocolate, or coffee.
You’ll also find tea, honey, sweeteners of all types, and individual creamers. And since it can get a tidbit chilly in Anaheim at night, a warm drink might be just what you need!
But if you need a little more warmth, cast members are ready with Star Wars-themed blankets for you to use during your stay in the Lounge. How helpful is that? (Sadly, you don’t get to keep ’em.)
And as the party winds down, Mickey and Minnie Mouse arrive! It’s always fun to see them out and about — and it added a festive element to an already-fun night.
Now, when Sabrina visited, fireworks were, sadly, cancelled due to high winds. Ultimate sadface! But when the weather is more accommodating, the Lounge will offer a terrific view of the show. And in case the view isn’t compelling enough, you’ll be up, up, and away from the crowds (and full of cake).
The Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience is an awesome way to spend two hours in Walt’s park. Photopass photogs will be milling around to capture the memories, and we think you’ll be glad to have pics to remember this special night.
What’s your favorite Disney Parks special event? Tell us all about it in the comments!
How much more pathetic are DLR upcharge money-grabs going to get under Bob Iger? $45 to hang out on a former Innoventions access ramp? You really, really have to be kidding me.
Is it unlimited drinks while in the lounge or just one per guest?
“Is it unlimited drinks while in the lounge or just one per guest?”
Base on another review I saw, it’s unlimited.
Regarding the view of fireworks, it’s a mixed bag. Although you’ll see fireworks, the Matterhorn blocks views of the castle, so you won’t see the castle projection show. With the frequency that Disneyland cancels the fireworks, keep in mind that you won’t get a refund if there are no fireworks.
I think the Skyline Lounge sounds great! I saw a review on YouTube that said that the two hour viait window is a bit small — I rather agree. I would pay more for a full day access with concierge-type food. Until then, can’t wait to try the Skyline Lounge!
Our party of 6 attended Sat. June 17th.
We had so much fun. You check in are assigned an area to sit then you are free to mingle. Come and go as you please.
I ordered gluten free and enjoyed every bite.
We played with bubbles, and checkers. I wanted to play connect4 but no time. Too busy taking pictures.
The cast members were very attentive. Continued you offer their assistance to take group pictures, offer blankets, and beverages.
Worth every penny.
I hope they continue to offer this experience after the summer. I would look forward to making reservations again.
Thank you Disneyland.
Just did this and had a great experience. Our fireworks were cancelled as well due to high winds however the view was incredible, desserts were wonderful and the experience is something to do again! Free refills on drinks and if there is something that isn’t available that you would like to play with all you have to do is ask. Super accommodating!!!!!
Just spoke with Dining CM about this package. She was adamant that “you might catch a glimpse of the fireworks depending on where you’re seated”, and the website has similar language, so I wouldn’t take the great view of the fireworks as a given.
Two weeks before a quick three day trip to Disneyland/California Adventure my husband stumbled across the Tomorrowland Skyview Lounge. He called into Disney and asked a dozen questions and based off what he was told he booked it.
He was super excited to surprise our 10 year old and kept it a secret until she was being handed her box of treats.
One of the things my husband was told by the reservation rep was that seats are assigned as you arrive. If you want a good seat then you need to be there at least 30 minutes early. (He was 45 min. early) So you can imagine when he was the 3rd person in line how shocked and surprised he was when we were not ushered to the awesome “Mad Men” inspired couch, but instead the plastic high-top neon table with hard plastic chairs that would barely hold the plastic boxes of treats nevertheless our phones, phone chargers or board game that they tout you can play while there. When we asked for a seat on the couches we were flat out told no. That those seats are for larger parties and the only way we could sit there was if someone with a reservation did not show up. (This is not what was told to my husband by the rep and it is NOT posted anywhere on their site.) After asking to speak to someone, a cast member named “Jessica” told us that this seat was the best we were going to get and again that the couches were for larger parties (although we just watched a party of 3 being shown their seat which was at the comfy couch… they arrived 20 min AFTER us.)
After asking for the manager and requesting our money back we walked away. And although we did get our $130 refunded, the time my husband spent to get the perfect seat for our daughter and the disappointment on his face could not be compensated.
Sadly Disney… YOU FAILED and did not demonstrate the four keys… Safety, Courtesy, Show, and Efficiency.
In addition to the uncomfortable (and dangerous if you have a smaller child) seat, the view was nothing spectacular. You cannot see the castle at all and all you can pretty much see is the roof of the restaurant and the roof of the Buzz Lightyear ride.
Another thing worth sharing is that the fumes from the go-karts is so strong that it will make you nauseous.
Think twice about booking this for your family.
