A NEW VERSION of the Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party will make its debut on Sunday, July 5th, at Magic Kingdom!
The “Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party” will offer enhancements to the very popular Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party (the final date of the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party will be July 4th). You can see our review of the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party here.
Guests will experience reserved seating areas and raise a sparkling cider toast as “Wishes” begins.
Of course, desserts will remain a key factor in the celebration, and Disney has revealed plans for offerings such as chocolate-dipped strawberries, chocolate mousse, and ice cream. New menu additions will include seasonal fruit and cheese assortments along with Disney character cupcakes. Additions to the beverage line-up will include
hot chocolate and signature lemonades.
The price for the new dessert party is $49 for adults, and $29 for children (including tax). Reservations for this experience open on Friday, March 20th, via the Walt Disney World website or by calling (407) WDW-DINE.
Did you attend the current dessert party in the Magic Kingdom? Would you pay twice as much for extra menu items? Let us know in the comments below!
I’m not really surprised by the price increase. I know a 50% jump seems like a lot, but compared to some of the other special event dessert parties, the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party was a real “deal”.
What I am more concerned about, is that we’ve only seen pictures and read marketing copy that mentions mini cupcakes, ice cream, chocolate dipped strawberries, fruit and cheese… along with the same beverages that were present before (with the addition of carbonated apple juice).
The spectacle of tasting (and seeing) all the different desserts that had included Apple Pie Tarts, Krispy Bonbons, Mango or Raspberry “Shooters”, Key Like Tarts, Chocolate Peanut-butter cups, Banana Cream Tarts, Creme Brûlée, and Brownie bites (just to name a few), in addition to the mentioned ice cream, cookies, the chocolate dipped strawberries, and cupcakes… is what really set the dessert party above the rest. No, they weren’t complex gourmet offerings, but there were many, many different flavors, textures, and forms of desserts to sample from.
I suppose that just because those various dessert haven’t been mentioned or pictured anywhere, doesn’t mean that they will be removed from the new event. But I will be very sad if the price has doubled, and to find anything “less” than what was there before.
I have been a huge fan of the current party for years now; I always thought it was an appropriately priced event with great quality and variety of food. However, for almost double the price……homegirl wants some booze!
Will Tomorrowland be open for rides after the fireworks dessert party? I didn’t like the idea of trying to fight the crowds to leave. Suggestions?
So the 50% increase however no “adult beverages” included?
So your telling me I pay $100 a couple for dessert?
Don’t care what type of setting and how close I am, no thanks….that’s ridiculous.
Loved the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party, but I definitely won’t be paying $50/person to eat dessert… I am glad I got the experience when I did!
As others have posted, I really do not see anything different with the ‘new’ dessert party other than sparkling apple cider. The article lists new beverages as hot chocolate and signature limonades….but they had those before at the previous price point.
Unless something is released that is really a ‘WOW’ factor, I’m going to save the $50/person, buy a Citrus Swril and my favorite beverage and watch the fireworks from where ever I may be (usually Fantasyland), and save $40 a head. Just doesn’t seem worth it with the information at hand.
We debated about the Dessert Party’s worth even at the old price, but now I’m glad we did it when we did. I’ve noticed Disney often does this: start big, and then “plus” the price and “minus” the experience to find the optimal profit. Not necessarily faulting that, it’s a business, but I’m glad I know to jump on special events and similar things when they’re first introduced. In most things, I avoid being an early adopter, but with Disney, it pays.
At $100 for a couple, that’s pretty pricey for desserts and soft drinks. Thing is, many will pay that price which only encourages Disney to continue price increases for these “special events”.
Yikes, that’s quite a price hike. I agree, for that sort of money I’d be expecting something a bit stronger than fizzy apple juice.
Sure it’s nice to relax for Wishes but that’s some serious cash to splash on dessert, especially for a family.
“I know a 50% jump seems like a lot…”
Check your math. This is not a 50% jump. The original price was $25.99. The new price is $49.00. That’s something like 88.53% increase.
There is no way desserts are worth this kind of money. For a family of 4, that would come out to almost $200.
Are they changing the location? While we did enjoy the Tomorrowland Dessert party by thought it did not really provide an optimal view of the fireworks as they were to the right of the castle, not centered. With all of the new lawn space, I’d rather get a Mickey’s Kitchen Sink ice cream for $15 for the family to share and take my chances amongst the crowds.
We really enjoyed the dessert party, and thought the price was pretty spot on for the prime firework viewing and the desserts. Being a family of six, 4 of which qualify for the adult price, I can’t imagine that we will be attending again with the new prices. It is a lovely experience, but it really is not worth the increase in price. No matter how many choices are added, you can’t eat any more than you could before. I would rather have the current selection and price.
This price hike is nothing short of absurd. The deserts at the party were good but were not high quality or gourmet by any means to justify such a high price point for DESERT. This costs more than any full buffet on property! They be trippin’
I have eaten at the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party twice.
The first time was back in June 2012. It was excellent, all the desserts were great, the view was great, and it was relaxing. I really believed it was worth the price I paid ($27/each).
The second time we went was just this past August (2014). The desserts were not very good (no more pistachio creme brulee :(, I think I liked one kind and just kept eating that), and there were a lot more people. A lot. I love desserts and am willing to pay top dollar for good desserts, but after our August experience I wouldn’t pay the $50 to go again unless I knew they had upped their game on the offerings.
Add me to those who are disappointed about the price increase. This was one of the few events of this sort that seemed to be priced reasonably for what you get. Not sure the addition of a couple extra beverages (non-alcoholic at that) and some fruit and cheese warrants almost doubling the price. I’ll be curious to see the reviews and find out exactly what all of the additions are as well as whether anything was removed from the menu.
Wow, that is quite a price hike. This dessert party is one of those things that I am glad I did once but never felt the need to do again. I thought it was a bit pricey even at the old price point but this is pretty nutty just for providing some sparkling cider and cheese.
They could add hand-picked wild strawberries covered in gold leaf and it wouldn’t justify this sort of price…. LOL.
I remember having my sit down dessert(ice cream) for free just after the parade and before the fireworks. Just another way for Disney to fatten the bulging bank account.
I’ll enjoy the fireworks from the park views and buy a dessert snack when I want to eat something. That would cost about…$5.00.
The price increase is ridiculous. $50 for dessert, even if it includes drinks with alcohol, is crazy. Having said that, I just booked it for one last time to see the fireworks from TomorrowLand Terrace. We usually make plans 2-3 months ahead and haven’t been able to get a dessert party reservation in a couple years, and its the only way I can get my family to see the fireworks (sit-down & relax instead of stand in a mob). I thought the old price was expensive but worth it for the prime seating. Glad I subscribe and found out before my dates were all booked up!
I’ll be curious to see if the dessert offerings are the full variety that they had before. If its the full dessert buffet, I’m still tempted to try it but if its just cookies & cupcakes there’s no way I’m paying $160 for the “benefit” of tablecloths & sparkling cider!
I am currently considering this. I’ve never to the one in Epcot for 50, and thought it was spectacular. But they had plenty of adult beverages. I’m not into alcohol as a general rule but it certainly explains the price. So I may wait for doom actual reviews before actually booking.
I was so excited about booking this, but after reading these comments I’m kinda questioning it. Then again I’d probably end up wasting that amount on lipstick that I’ll end up losing and buying again.
I’ve told everyone that would listen that I think the best “deal” at WDW is the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party. At $29 each, we could have dessert for dinner, have a table and chairs and no crowds for the fireworks. It was awesome. Booked it for every trip. Now they double the price… Hmmmm…. Will have to think about it next time.
Yummy, but I don’t know if I would pay that much.
booked mine this morning. If I am paying thousands to go on vacation, then fifty more is ok
This price hike is ridiculous! I cannot justify spending that much money for desserts! I guess the only way for Disney to get the message is for people to not attend this event. I doubt that will happen because as long as it is offered, people will continue to pay these steep prices! It is hard enough for a family of 5 at adult prices to pay admission for Disney much less attend this dessert party. Disappointing!
I am still planning on going. I HATE having to stake out a spot and be jostled for an hour to have someone at the last minute try to push their children in front of us then join them. I would rather skip the fireworks all together than go through that hell again!! I feel like having a seat and a view is well worth the $$$. I also believe it is not hot chocolate but hot drinkable chocolate. I am hoping this is the chocolate drink they offer during food & wine!! It is my favorite thing to get during F&W. I am just going to miss the raspberry champagne to alternate drinking with the chocolate.
It’s not so much the price, it’s the location that has prevented me from doing this. The display is made to be viewed from the hub and Main Street. The location is too much to the side for some of the fireworks to be viewed optimally. Especially the low, white “streamers” that come from the buildings in Fantasyland behind the castle.
We debated on doing the dessert party for years. We always opted out because, due to poor planning, we always had dinner buffets reserved before going to Magic Kingdom and there was no way we could squeeze more food in. I was planning on making it a point to do it at some point during our two week trip in January, but at $50 per person? Not going to happen. I have a hard enough time convincing my husband and parents that almost $70 is justifiable for the special event holiday parties and those actually get you all-you-can-eat candy/cookies and park time for 8 hours.
Wow. This is so disappointing. This has always been a must do for my family, for the AWESOME view, the lack of crowd chaos and the desserts. We will try it again to see how it measures up, but I can’t imagine it will be worth it unless they have made some other changes we don’t know about yet.
Very disappointed to hear about this price hike 🙁
Have done the Dessert Party twice now in 2012 and 2014 and loved it.
Although I did think that the choice of desserts was less in 2014 and they no longer had their little name labels describing what they were.
Thought it was well worth the price for the relaxed atmosphere and a seat away from all the pushing and shoving and wholeheartedly recommended it on the Disney forums I belong to.
But not anymore ….. I cannot see that it is worth $50 per head 🙁
I loved attending the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party!
It was a nice way to view Wishes in a non crowded setting and enjoy some fine desserts and beverages in a relaxed atmosphere with table seating.
It is really disappointing that the price will go from $25.99 to $49…for just dessert?
You can eat a full buffet for less then this price at any buffet restaurant on property!
As an Annual Passholder…I love Disney World, but price gouging comes to mind, when it is only dessert and no alcoholic beverages. An 80% + price increase for just dessert is ridiculous.
Don’t forget the table cloths. Those add the swank and certainly explain the price hike.
I hope Disney PR is reading this – you have stooped to a new level of greed. Keep increasing prices exponentially until you price out most American families. Then you can save some money by dropping the English recordings.
“Por favor, mantengase alejado de las puertas.”
I did the original on my trip last February and it was okay for the price. I felt like I needed to eat a LOT of desserts to get my money worth even at that price. The thing I didn’t like was that we had a good table with a good view, but some people didn’t, so they stood in front of our table at the railing and blocked our view. I certainly wouldn’t pay the new price.
I did this recently for the very first time. It was chaos. Lots of pushing and shoving at the buffet, and a few rude families who “staked out” the best spots at the railing (rather than eat) and set up a string of cameras and blocked the view of those sitting, even before the fireworks (I had wanted to just sit and enjoy dessert and watch the castle all lit up, but even that was a fail – I could have just gone to the DD bakery!). I don’t think I would want to go through all that again for an increased price hike.
Wow!! What a price increase!! Glad I got my reservations for June!! I can’t imagine it being THAT good to warrant such a price increase. $100 a couple – That’s a good meal at a sit down restaurant!!
Didn’t know Disney was scrapping the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party and we were going to book it for $29. For our family of 4, $120 was acceptable, however, $200 just put it out of reach. Hey, Mickey, didn’t you think the over $100 admission ticket was enough?
Did this a few years ago and enjoyed it. First to book for that date so had the best seat in the house. Ate a few items but could only eat so much dessert. Felt it was an appropriate price for the experience. I have felt sticker shock at the prices for extra functions that seems to be the recent disney trend. Such as the villains party during the MNSSHP. Disney is really out pricing my family. Being an RN, I feel my family represents a middle american income. Just wonder how many other middle americans are feeling the same. Adding a few extra items (even being of more substance) would not entice me to attend at double the price. As in the picture shown, the party I attended had chocolate covered strawberries. Consequently, that would not be an addition to the party for me.
I just attempted to book this party for our July vacation…and nearly choked when I saw the $274 “advance payment required” for my family of six!
Do you think they might be adding characters to the experience? That seems like the only thing that would justify such a ridiculous price increase. Just a thought! I have debated booking it…just to wait and see if they release some fabulous info…and canceling it if they don’t.
We could never get reservations in the past in the summer. Now with the price increase, it is available almost every night. Have booked us in and will see what happens. Thing about Disney is this, if the experience is not what is advertised, and you make a stink about the quality of service, a refund will be in order. i.e. About 10 years ago, went to Blizzard Beach. They had let in way too many people, a complete gong show. 2 hour wait for each slides. I went to the front and sad wtf this is b.s. They took me around back, away from others, I made my complaint about the situation and lack of customer service. As soon as I said that, a refund was offered.
We have started to make the dessert party a tradition for our last night at Walt Disney World. With young children it is so much easier than being jostled by crowds. Plus we are morning people but by the end of our vacation kids are able to stay up and more importantly awake. One late night at the end of the trip is fine to see such wonderful fireworks. The price hike is really outrageous but we are paying it this trip and looking forward to it. As Athena says if you are paying Thousands of pounds/dollars for the vacation what’s a few more. However it’s a few more than we will now not spend on Disney’s other temptations such as souvenirs etc., and if it isn’t good then I will complain very long and loudly.
I booked this for August, assuming that after July 5th reviews are in I could cancel if it didn’t look promising.
Has anyone read anything mentioning perhaps a smaller, more intimate crowd thereby driving up the price point? That is what I am hoping for.
Just LUCKILY got reservations for May 2015. I would never pay $50 a head which is why the Epcot party always has seats available.
Walt Disney himself must be turning over in his grave for this is not why he built this park. It was supposed to be for families however I know many many families that are priced out from ever even coming here. How sad.
The desert party is a must for any family with younger children. They can sit and enjoy the show in comfort. The deserts are nice however drink choice is very limited.
We did the dessert party last Valentine’s Day. It was nice having a good and uncrowded view of the fireworks, and we enjoyed socializing with the other guest. The desserts themselves were substandard…low quality commissary products that I wouldn’t eat if they were free. The hot chocolate was cold and the other beverages tasted watery. The only things worth consuming were the chocolate covered strawberries, although I’ve had much better. But I was there with the love of my life, and it was romantic. But the same low quality products for twice the amount (it’s now $49.00 per person…it was $25.00 last February)…not a snowball’s chance. There is so much good food and so many great dessert choices at Disney (like a strawberry cupcake with light cocoa frosting that I had there just last week) that I can’t figure out why THOSE aren’t served at the dessert party. Oh…wait…yes I can. Serving quality desserts instead of the current cheap stuff might shave a few cents off the profits. And we can’t have that…even at $49.00 per person.
I don’t really understand what all the complaining about the price hike is about. Prices go up and Disney World without exception is an expensive place. Look at how much dinner at Ohana’s is! Ridiculous! If I am spending six thousand dollars for my family to vacation what is another few hundred? I have without exception had a family step in front of mine just minutes before the fireworks start. They will even put their kids on their shoulders as if some how they are more important than other families. I understand we have all spend lots of money to be there but your lack of planning does not mean you get to obstruct my view of the castle. Sorry Jr. your parents don’t know how to plan. If I can reserve a spot where I can sit and watch the show without having a difficult conversation with someone for being rude. It’s worth it. I just want to know if the view is better than the fast pass viewing section. Anyone do both of these?
O M G. Was thinking about this, but with six in my party no way is this going to happen.
Welllll…. There goes THAT idea!
Went in 2014 when the price was reasonable, and even at that it was a stretch for a hand full of desserts……I mean how much sugar can one person consume in one sitting?! As for the “experience “that is part of the cost…..wasn’t too much of an experience. It was fun enough though, and we were planning on going this year since they changed it up, but not now that they almost doubled the price. So not worth it. For a family of four, I’ll be taking my family to the Boathouse with our $200 and get a real experience!
