Last December, we were thrilled to report that Epcot had jumped on the cronut wagon!
Epcot’s Refreshment Port (if you’re walking from Canada, you’ll find the Port immediately before the paths that take you into Future World) quietly introduced them with this unassuming sign listing “Croissant Doughnut.”
Of course, “Croissant Doughnuts” is quite an apt description for these fried pastries formed out of rings of croissant dough (plus, as I mentioned in the previous post, the name “cronut” is trademarked — so legal stuffs and whatever).
We tried ’em. We loved ’em. But guess what!!
Not only are the cronuts still in full swing at the Refreshment Port… you can now get them A LA MODE.
You need to approach the counter to see this option: it’s on a small sign near the registers, so you can’t find it on the regular display… at least, not yet.
Just take a look!
The ice cream is a generous portion of vanilla soft serve. If you want ice cream with every bite, you’re set!
Of course, I had to get the regular (non a la mode) cronut for a side by side comparison… all in the name of proper research, of course π .
Everything that we love about the cronut to begin with held true: the layers were super buttery — and not flaky — which I appreciated. I almost liked that they were a little “gummy.” (Weird, I know… but there you go!) And, of course, the butter combined with the cinnamon and sugar is that wonderful blend of slightly salty-and-sweet.
Now, add to that the cool creaminess of the soft serve, and… well, what’s not to love?! Again, there was a warm-cold combo here that makes it REALL:Y hard to resist eating the whole freaking thing.
Something to note: the regular Croissant Doughnut is $4.49 and can also be purchased using a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan. The Croissant Doughnut a la Mode, however, cannot be purchased using a snack credit, and the price is $5.79 (as noted in the photo).
My thought? You can’t go wrong with either one.
Will you be taking your cronut with ice cream or without? Please let us know with a comment!
That’s great news! I loved that cronut when I tried it a few months ago, and I’m sure it would go perfectly with some vanilla ice cream.
I can’t help wonder what this would be like with some kind of ‘appley’ bits in this.
(apologies for inventing an adjective).
For me, that would most definitely be the ultimate cronut!
Someday I will get to try one of these hot. Cold on a buffet they are just ok.
Looks just yummy π
I am curious are these indeed served HOT? As someone mentioned they would like to try them Hot. I don’t see the ice cream melting so really unsure and yes the Apple mention I am thinking more of a apple pie filling would be great on top or inside or better yet an apple frozen yogurt or apple ice cream!
Kev….I am not a big apple fan but an apple ring in the middle does sound rather awesome.
I will totally be giving this a try in October….no ice cream…just warm and crispy.
@Jay: I had a cronut during my trip in January and a few weeks ago in March during spring break. Both times the cronut was hot and fresh and delicious!! They seem to be selling very well at Refreshment Port because both times there was a bit of a line for them. But I don’t mind waiting if that means I’m getting a fresh cronut! I don’t think you’ll have a problem getting a freash and hot cronut from Refreshment Port. And I must say I love the cronut! I could eat one everyday!!
Um, YES PLEASE! LOTS and LOTS of icecream thank you! π
Looks amazing!
Definitely will try, I ate 4 during princess half marathon weekend and my friends are now hooked. We got ours hot, right out of fryer. Wish I could have one now!
Is Epcot the only place to find them? I’ve been wanting a cronut since I first heard about them, but have not yet found a place that sells them. I don’t have any plans to go to Epcot in the near future. Would love to see these on DCL.
This looks amazing! I am so getting one. *Drools all over self*
without
My first thought when I see that cronut a la mode….
Strawberry sauce.
All over it.
Like the real strawberry sauce at some of the buffets at Crystal Palace or Hollywood and Vine…
Or the hot fudge sauce.
That would be okay too.
Thanks for your sharing! This blog has cheered me up more than a few times.
I wonder how it compares to the real Cronut from NYC π I guess I’ll find out in a week!
Exceptionally delicious ! Can’t wait to go back and get a few more !
They are served warm. NO ice cream for me !
I haven’t wanted to fight the crowds at the NYC bakery, and can’t wait to try this next month at Epcot! I think I’ll try it first without since they are served warm. Mmmm!
I prefer it served hot and without ice cream.
I’m pretty sure I’ll have to try one of each, at least! I’ll be there in 22 days, can’t wait! ΒΊoΒΊ
Oh this looks soooo yummy! Wish they had them at Disneyland since I will be there in a few months and not at WDW for a year or so now!
Too? You need to get a proof reader.
Well, as I read your very tempting review, I was thinking that I’d still eat it without the ice cream? Why? I need to be careful about how much dairy I ingest, and I’ve got my eye on some of those shakes and sundaes you’ve recommended. I’m betting this is pretty darn tasty all on its own, especially with a cuppa joe beside it.
Fortunately, the decision got easier when you said that the a la mode is not available with snack credit. I figure I’m spending a significant amount of money for the dining plan, and there’s no need to purchase more snacks than those covered by the plan…so it’s plain cronut (oops…croissant doughnut) for me!!!
I would love this with ice cream, please!
Looks like they might have FINALLY made up for getting rid of the “Beaver Tails” they used to sell in Canada! Going to try one of these, a la mode, on Sunday! YAY!
Thanks to your recommendation, I tried the a la mode version this week. Definitely a great treat! Probably would have been even better with the pineapple soft serve they had in the next kiosk!
Thanks for the review. I will be in Disney in October. I can’t wait to try it a la mode.
With Halloween around the corner, I just thought about how amazing a pumpkin spiced cronut would be. Can you hear me Disney pastry chefs?
They are warm. They are amazing. They do not need the ice cream.
