Just outside of Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there is a humble little kiosk called Harambe Popcorn. [Editor’s note: Harambe Popcorn has received a name change since the writing of this post; this kiosk is now named Mahindi.] I estimate that I’ve passed right by it about a million times, give or take ten thousand or so.
I’ve noted the menu — popcorn, check. Glazed nuts (yum!), check. Assorted bevs and Jungle Juice, check check. I’ve even mentioned it to you in the Tusker House review.
The addition of Jungle Juice — that glorious stuff that includes passion fruit, guava, and orange juice into one yummo glass — to the kiosk is relatively new, and I’d been looking forward to getting some here.
It’s pretty great that you can now get it without booking a table at Boma or Tusker House! Here’s a pic of Jungle Juice at Boma…for comparison purposes.
But when I finally headed over to get myself a glass a week or so ago, I was pretty intrigued by what I was given.
When the nice cast member handed over a hefty serving, I realized…it was FROZEN!
Well, not completely frozen, but slushy…the texture was a cross between a slush puppie and Disney’s frozen lemonade.
Now, I have no idea if this is what regularly happens here at this kiosk. But I CAN tell you that the Jungle Juice was in one of those frozen drink tumbly things. You know, the ones that look like little washing machines?
So my guess is that they do serve it frozen as a general rule. How about that?! Have you seen frozen jungle juice anywhere else?
And this stuff is ah-mazing! I loved it! I would definitely be in line for more if I didn’t have to eat everything else in the Disney Parks. 😉
My Great Idea That You Have To Try: Jungle Juice Float!
So, I downed my frozen jungle juice and continued on my snack trek of Animal Kingdom…stopping next at the ice cream kiosk on the other side of Harambe Bridge. My choice here was a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
As I was indulging, I got thinking. Wouldn’t this be a great addition to that frozen jungle juice?!?
Picture it: grab some ice cream. Get a frozen Jungle Juice. Drop the ice cream into the Jungle Juice. Enjoy.
So, dear readers, now that I’m no longer in Disney World and can’t act upon this awesome idea on my own, I hope that one of you will try it out! If you do, send me a pic and we’ll put your story on the blog!
It could be the next best thing, an Animal Kingdom icon. The Jungle Juice Float! Who’s with me?
Have you experienced frozen Jungle Juice? Why didn’t you tell me? 😉 Leave a comment and let us know which way you like it best!
YUM! I wish I were in AK right now so I could try it – not only for the fame and fortune that would come with being on the blog, but for the pure fact of how delicious that sounds!
I gotta try that!!!!! I would even settle for a frozen jungle juice itself!! I wish I was there right now!!
Can you say airline size bottle of Captain Morgan?? 🙂
It’s called “POG” (passion, orange, guava) in Hawaii and very popular, although I’ve never seen it in slushy form. Sounds great!
I remember how wonderful the Dole Whip swirl float is at the Magic Kingdom, Mom and I both raved, so I know this will be a hit. Now if they could just add some soft serve to that frozen delight? Hint hint (looking at you WDW execs)…
Yum! That looks amazing 🙂 I will be there in two weeks and now I simply must try a Jungle Juice Float. Thanks for the idea!
Sandy — Let me know if you try it when you’re next in the park! 🙂
Katie — Ha ha; I hope it’s frozen all the time. It was awesome.
Nicole B — Great idea!!
Lisa — Yep — they do call it POG juice when it’s served at the Polylnesian. I’m even starting to see it in my grocery store these days!
Cindi — You can probably bring your frozen jungle juice over to a soft serve location and do the same thing 🙂
Lizzy — You’re welcome! Let me know how it turns out!
I work at DAK Lodge, and i know that our signature drink for guests staying on the club level is the Wild African Mimosa, consisting of jungle juice and champagne, and it is a huge hit! I will definitely need to try the frozen drink at the park!
Taco Bell restaurants in Hawaii have POG slushies.
Hi AJ!
In California, we have a frozen juice concentrate brand called Hawaii’s Own, which makes POG (it’s by the frozen OJ concentrate). We call it “Mommy’s favorite juice!” In fact, when the kiddos go to bed, Mommy likes to add a little Captain or Grey Goose to it! Yum-O! I think I may have to defrost a can right now, so it’s ready for tonight! Let me know if you’d like to see the can, and I will email you a picture of it.
I think pineapple or pineapple/vanilla dole whip would be an excellent addition to the Jungle Juice slush! Truly tropical and in great Disney fashion … maybe Aloha Isle should start offering that float… 😉 😉
We won’t be there until August….but jungle juice is a fave in my family- challenge accepted!!
🙂
I want to try that! I’ll do it in may (well almost the end of this month as of tomorrow!!!!)
I can’t wait to try that Wild African Mimosa in June! First time ever for club level and now I’m even more excited. And I’ll try the Jungle Juice if I get to DAK next week. Darn, I was just there and missed it.
Well AJ, I’ll be arriving tomorrow morning and our first stop (by request of my 7 y/o daughter) is Animal Kingdom. So consider it done 😉
Kristina — Have so much fun on your trip!
This looks aMAzing, and I can’t WAIT to try your idea! It’s like the best creamsicle EVER!
I’m so excited to try jungle juice when I go to Disney this summer! I’ve been many times but I had never heard about this treat before I started reading this blog! 🙂
The Dawa Bar needs a version of this with rum!!!
Interesting twist on it! Everything is indeed better a la mode though, isn’t it. ^^
Sounds like a good idea to me, AJ. I’d like to try it plain on my way into the park and then get one with the ice cream when I’m leaving, just so I can compare and make an accurate, well informed report for you! Alas, I may not be going down for a while….
I love Jungle Juice. I’ll have to try it frozen.
Dude,
That’s totally awesome! I’ll be there next week (woo-hoo!), and will absolutely put this on the list.
Thanks, AJ!
Jeff
I have never had Jungle Juice but plan to try it on our next trip @ Boma breakfast. Can’t wait!! We will have to try the frozen version also!!
The Jungle Juice sounds like the POG juice served in the Poly’s concierge lounge! I AM COMPLETELY ADDICTED TO THE STUFF! Would love to try it as a frozen slush! <3
Went to try the frozen/slushie version of the jungle juice. Explained how we were aware of it thanks to your blo g post. Cast member said it can be that way depending on how they feel like making it that day. They would not make it special like that. Found a manager and went to guest relations to suggest it be made that way all the time. I mentioned again the blog
My family and I were in Animal Kingdom May 7 during Florida’s early heat wave. We were taking a break and my hubby bought a frozen one to try. It got passed around the table and he was sent back for more. Everyone loved it and we went back for more later in the day. Now home in Canada and trying to duplicate this treat for grandson’s birthday supper.
